Pours a clear mahogany brown, with a thin beige head.
Complex, well developed aroma, brett, oak, very vinous, dark fruit, vanilla, cherries, caramel, coffee, toasted notes, cinnamon, blackberries.
Bone dry, medium body, low bitterness, balanced CO2.
The taste reflects the aroma to the max. Extremely complex, well balanced, with a very clean acidity that lingers on the palate. Ridiculously drinkable, easily one of the best non-Belgian sours I have ever had. (2016-09-03)

UPDATED: JUN 17, 2014 Re-rate, batch #3. Tap at the brewery. Clear dark ruby brown with a thin beige head that lasts on the sides. Aromas of sour apple, Bing cherries, funk, wood, and light spice. Flavor is sour apple and cherry front with some funk, wood and just a hint of chocolate underneath. Light to medium bodied, dry finish with a lingering sour apple/cherry. theothermatt (286) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - OCT 4, 2013
On tap at Crooked Stave. Pours a dark, blood, red. Nice light head that slowy disappears. Aroma of funk, cherries, plums, grapes, and acid. Very balanced sour, and tart, but not mouthpuckering. Smooth. No vinegar or astringent flavor. Very, very, very good. robloc303 (268) - Erie, Colorado, USA - OCT 7, 2013
pours reddish amber, with thin head. More carbonated than expected, but in a good way. Nose is sour cherries, with grape juice, plum and raisin. Flavor is awesome, I could drink this all night. Sour tart cherries and grape juice with well balanced oakyness. The finish sits on your tongue for hours making your mouth water for more of that tart cherry flavor.. onceblind (10329) - Denver, Colorado, USA - APR 8, 2015
40th Crooked Stave beer, 5,000th rating. Deep dark ruby brown with an off-white ring of foam around the edge. Lots of honey and brandy barrel and something like plums on the nose. Amazing flavor with dark sweet Belgian malts, plum and dates, with a twangy sour flavor that’s not puckering but kinda close. Lovely brandywine and oak barrel flavors on the funky and dryish finish. Lots of dark Belgian sweetness throughout. Very tasty.

Dark browning color with red hints. Slightly woody nose with hints of what seems like wine. Big tart taste. As the beer warmed up a bit and coated the glass more, it went from being a good beer to a great beer. If I had another bottle, I’d make sure to swirl it around the glass a few times before drinking. Sampler at Liquor Express. Pours brown with a thin brown head. Leaves some lacing in the glass. Lots of wood and fruit on the nose. Tons of tartness and wood and fruit on the tongue. What lovely, fresh, bracing beer. JPDurden24 (1675) - Chandler, Arizona, USA - APR 6, 2013
From the bottle, brown pour with tannish head. Oak and sour notes in the nose. Tart, fruit and sour flavor. Good stuff!

Excellent! An oak vinegar aroma is inviting. The taste is sour cherry with hints of Apple and rich sweet vinegar. The finish is a lasting sour with just a hint of bitterness. With low carbonation, this beer has a thin but deep sour fruit flavor that is really good. Overall, this is just an excellent showing. Marheb (6037) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 31, 2015
(Bue en fût sur place): Typique rouge des Flandres avec une forte cerise et une présence chocolatée très noire. Des minéraux insistent aussi pour faire parti du profil. Vraiment complexe et savoureux.
