Funky tart citrus aroma. I can smell the blood oranges. See through yellow color. Surprisingly light and drinkable; the sour and funk does not show through much in the taste. I guess that's why it's the summer version. Palate a bit watery and lacking carbonation. I don't know what I'm missing but I just can't get into crooked stave. I'm trying.

September 19, 2015 - at Beaverton for the Rainbow event - draught. Very hazy yellow with a huge lasting fluffy white head. Aroma of pear, light brett and floral bitterness. Taste - even MORE brett - fantastic, if a bit raw. Good body, fruit in the finish, which is quick, brett fades pretty quickly. Nice one.

September 14th, 2014 - Crooked Stave tastings are a special event, but this one comes courtesy of Perry’s Pizzeria, which has the Bretta Sour on tap. Orthodoxy declares that pizza can only be paired with a light lager, or maybe an IPA, but I wanted to test whether a sour might go nicely with the herbaceous pies being flung around here. The color is a practically iridescent blonde color, and fills the nearby atmosphere with a brettanomyces style aroma with hay (as I write this, tis the season of hay bales and hay rides), banana and a freshness that belongs to a barnyard. The beer delivers its flavors at a low hum, sour and tangy, with some pear on a thinner, more quenching palate. In many ways this tastes a great deal like a Berliner Weisse, but with more funk and acidity, but whatever category or hybridization of categories it falls under, this is good drinking - and pairs well with the pizza. Kind of a lambic, citrus, tea aroma. Citrus shows up more in the flavor which also has a nice clean tartness.. Good finish.
