This is truly a great barrel aged saison! The complex flavor of oak, funk, and citrus sweetness blend together so well. It has a great balance of tartness and sweetness that makes for a very refreshing beer. lealintern (14) - New Orleans, Louisiana, USA - FEB 3, 2016
A wonderful barrel flavor to go along with the sour and Brett characters that make this beer amazing! Klimaet (2960) - Aarhus N, DENMARK - JAN 23, 2016
Bottle. Pours a light hazy orange with a medium white head. Aromas of sweet esters, oaky sweet notes, citrussy, lemon zesty, some sweet green grapes, light moldy. Taste is tarter- citrussy, lemon zest, orange peel, some stone fruits, oaky sweetness, light saison yeast, once again a sweet vinous note in the back. Reminds me of a dessert wine mixed with a tart saison. Darn nice! pushkinwow (2888) - Ottawa, CANADA - JAN 19, 2016
Bottle picked up at HF. Pours a clear somewhat pale yellow with an off white head. Nice tartness with a moderate amount of sour, some light funk, oak, lemon zest, yeast. Moderate+ carbonation and moderate body, fades on the finish but enjoyable overall. Japalo (1887) - DENMARK - JAN 10, 2016
Bottle @home. Haze golden. Small head. Citrus barnyard medium funky. Smooth well balanced oak to sour fruits. Bone dry and the best in my palate from the Staves yet.

0.375 l bottle from Firma Bier. Deep golden color. Tart, acidic and perfumed aroma with raspberry, sour cherries, lemon and citrus pith. Acidic lemon and sour cherry taste upfront with grainy, phenolic and woody notes in the background. Excellent acidity, sharp enough but still quite drinkable. Fairly low carbonation. Despite the acidity mouthfeel is oily and smooth. Reminds gueuze but is softer and more drinkable. rodenbach99 (4572) - Longueuil, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 5, 2016
2014 Batch 16. Bottle: Poured a hazy light dirty beige color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention. Aroma of tart notes with light oak notes. Taste is a mix of tart notes with some funky notes and some oak notes. Limited acidity with just enough complexity. Body is about average with good carbonation. Interesting flavors with good level of complexity. superspak (5881) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - DEC 20, 2015
375 ml bottle into tulip glass; Batch 9, 2014 vintage. Pours fairly hazy orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big tart lemon, lime, orange, green apple, pear, white grape, pepper, leather, oak, light white wine vinegar, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity, of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast, oak barrel, and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart lemon, lime, orange, green apple, pear, white grape, pepper, leather, oak, light white wine vinegar, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Moderate amount of yeast spiciness and fruity/acidic tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, lime, orange, green apple, pear, white grape, pepper, leather, oak, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast, oak barrel, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/tartness/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness from acidity and yeast spiciness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp/acidic, and slightly grainy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible sour saison style. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast, oak barrel, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink with the balanced acidity. This had a lot of similarities to many Gueuze I’ve had in the past, but still had nice spicy saison character as expected. A highly enjoyable offering. melush (4414) - SPAIN - DEC 18, 2015
