UPDATED: FEB 11, 2015 An excellent black IPA. This is a great beer to consume at the start, middle, or end of a session. Basically, a jack of all trades - and a master of all! Oakes (18828) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 9, 2013
American black ipa. Med brown, med head, toasty, grapefruity, minty, chocolatey -fun stuff. Taste is toasty and woody, w light mint and herbal hop. mgermani (1010) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 15, 2013
Pours a near-black mahogany with a thin light-tan head with decent retnetion and some lace. Earthy, chocolate & molasses aroma. Thin but flavourful body, earthy mushroom & light chocolate, guava, moderate hops - decent carbonation. Very pleasant, sessionable beer, however not all that hoppy. andrewturba (1190) - Alberta, CANADA - FEB 15, 2013
Pours a very dark brown colour with small off white head amounting to a few spots and a light ring around the glass after a few minutes with moderate lace. Aromas of grapefruit, tropical fruit, and roasted malts. Flavours are citrus, pine, roasted barley, medium bitterness and overall a bit thin, could use a bit more of a malt backbone. Good beer, not sure if there’s a style for it yet. Reimer96 (1778) - Alberta, CANADA - FEB 15, 2013
Pours a clear dark brown color with a big frothy light brown head. Aroma is a big citrus burst with fruity tropical fruit esthers like passion fruit and guava. Taste is citrus hops with much of the same tropical fruit flavors and some roasted malts in the background. Not really a black ipa, needs more of the porter aspects to give it more body otherwise this just seems like a sessionable dark hoppy beer.

Pours dark chestnutbrown with foamy coloured head, strong orangey simcoe with chocolate, grapefruit and cocoa on the nose. Medium carbonation, with initial malt sweetness seugueing into pithy citrus and some lemon cheesecake notes. Touch of coffee and dark malt astringency in finish, otherwise passes the blindfold test.
A pretty solid black IPA. Some fruity hoppy nose, some tropical fruits and a bit of coffee and roast malt. A little smokiness and some coffee with a nice fruity hop bite. Thin body. Very solid. CapFlu (5132) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 27, 2012
(500ml bottle) Purchased at vintage Liquors for $10. Pours a quick dissipating frothy white head atop a black body. Nose of PNW hops. Hops are much more pronounced in the front of the palate than Phillips, a tad thin but good malt and bitterness flavour through the finish. Yummy.

500 ml bottle. Pours black with light head. Aromas of spruce and dark, sour over-ripe fruit. Maybe a hint of chocolate. Definitely American hoppy flavors, grapefruit and pine, but lacking in malt to balance. Nice but not great. petergaynor (137) - NEW ZEALAND - NOV 10, 2012
Pint on tap. Pours black with nice thick caramel head. Smell is some stonefruit, malty caramel, some spice. Taste is coffee, chocolate notes. Really nixe dark hoppy beer
