Dark beer with ruby highlights, poured with a large frothy head that laced the glass well. Heavy citrusy hopbag aroma, bready malt notes on the nose also. Medium bodied beer, which drinks like an IPA and finishes roasty. Very well balanced beer. dresden (1581) - Saskatchewan, CANADA - DEC 31, 2012
A pretty solid black IPA. Some fruity hoppy nose, some tropical fruits and a bit of coffee and roast malt. A little smokiness and some coffee with a nice fruity hop bite. Thin body. Very solid. Maris (1499) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - OCT 2, 2012
From a 500ml bottle on 2/10/2012. Pours a dark amber with a small head. Has a moderate fruity, hoppy aroma with just a hint of chocolate. The flavour more full on with an interesting mix of roasty, resiny bitteress, set off against some sweet citrus fruit and touch of toffee. The carbonation is typical of an IPA. All in all, an enjoyable, high quality black IPA. beerledgend (1196) - Waterloo, Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - SEP 12, 2011
Dark black in colour with small offwhite head. Short hoppy floaral aroma. Big hop malt coffee chocolate flavours,"What’s missing?" Mouthfeel smooth considering all those big flavours."O" for awesome!!! andrewturba (1190) - Alberta, CANADA - FEB 15, 2013
Pours a very dark brown colour with small off white head amounting to a few spots and a light ring around the glass after a few minutes with moderate lace. Aromas of grapefruit, tropical fruit, and roasted malts. Flavours are citrus, pine, roasted barley, medium bitterness and overall a bit thin, could use a bit more of a malt backbone. Good beer, not sure if there’s a style for it yet.

Poured from 500mL bottle. Clear very dark brown with nice beige head. Predominant hoppy aroma, hint of caramel. Tastes starts off hoppy and quickly recedes into a chocolatey roasted mouthfeel. Dry finish, medium body. bluebetty (1021) - AUSTRALIA - AUG 3, 2011
Bottle. Black pour with dense tan coloured head. Plenty of lacing. Aromas of citrusy hops an some roasted grain. Flavours show a little more of the grain with some roasted bitterness supporting the hops. A touch thin but not a bad beer. mgermani (1002) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 15, 2013
Pours a near-black mahogany with a thin light-tan head with decent retnetion and some lace. Earthy, chocolate & molasses aroma. Thin but flavourful body, earthy mushroom & light chocolate, guava, moderate hops - decent carbonation. Very pleasant, sessionable beer, however not all that hoppy. omega (900) - NEW ZEALAND - APR 1, 2012
Big rich aromas and pours a nice dark colour. Not much carbonation as it quite a soft beer on the palate. Has good length of flavours but is a little restrained. Finish is slightly bitter and the hops that were prevalent when this beer was first released have dissipated. ShaneJ (896) - AUSTRALIA - MAR 1, 2014
Bottle from Plonk. Black, dark chocolate, hoppy orange/citrus aroma, dry roasty malts, resiney, dry bitterness. Nice.
