Bottle. This one messed with my mind. Poured beautifully black, but screamed MASSIVE US hop aroma’s (as stated above; Amarillo and Simcoe). The flavour delivers big time - oranges/citrus mixed with chocolate from the malt. The malt is fantastic - not too heavy, but enough to easily carry the hops. Not seen too many black IPA styles in NZ, this one is Deeeelish! Brenhophead (695) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JAN 21, 2012
Pours black with a fluffy beige head and a wonderful sweet fruit/citrus aroma with hints of chocolate and coffee beans as it warms and the head fades. The flavour starts off as a well balanced IPA and finishes with espresso/chocolate flavour like a IS. This beer has an outstanding aroma/flavour and i will be stocking a few of these in my fridge. petergaynor (137) - NEW ZEALAND - NOV 10, 2012
Pint on tap. Pours black with nice thick caramel head. Smell is some stonefruit, malty caramel, some spice. Taste is coffee, chocolate notes. Really nixe dark hoppy beer Zeke_NZL (33) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - AUG 23, 2011
Outstanding! malt and hops are both present but it leans heavily towards hops in both flavour and aroma. Great beer for hot or cold days. Beersiveknown (5309) - NORTHERN IRELAND - JAN 26, 2013

Pours dark chestnutbrown with foamy coloured head, strong orangey simcoe with chocolate, grapefruit and cocoa on the nose. Medium carbonation, with initial malt sweetness seugueing into pithy citrus and some lemon cheesecake notes. Touch of coffee and dark malt astringency in finish, otherwise passes the blindfold test.
Really like this style of beer so found this beer really enjoyable. Nice dark almost pure black pour, slight tan head. Nice floral hops with a nice amount of bitterness dominate the palate. Nothing over the top just a nice beer. Travlr (26433) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - AUG 5, 2013
Bottle. Extremely dark maroon color, large fluffy beige head with good retention. Aroma of peppery pine boughs on a background of long black. Taste is bright pine with roasted coffee grounds and bitter cocoa. Exactly what a black IPA ought to be. Delicious. kiwianer (3428) - Otorohanga, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 16, 2013
The head is robust, the body black. It smells maltaromatic, hoppy intensive, a bit roasty. The taste is maltaromatic, roasty, hoppy, bitter, coffee-bitter, hoparomatic, bit creamy, very nice and delicious! special for just 5.5% 4.1 kiwi_daz (55) - NEW ZEALAND - OCT 2, 2011
good solid malt base with a bunch of hop flavour and aroma. My favourite beer at the moment, could easily smash these back in summer or winter. MitchDudarko (4) - AUSTRALIA - DEC 15, 2011 does not count
Awesome beer! Dark beer with ruby highlights, poured with a large frothy head that laced the glass well. Heavy citrusy hopbag aroma, bready malt notes on the nose also. Medium bodied beer, which drinks like an IPA and finishes roasty. Very well balanced beer.
