Pours black with ruby highlights and a large, lasting head.
Nose shows masses of hops, lots of fruit in there. Apples, peaches, passion fruit and pine. Underneath is softer roasted malt. Very nice!
The roasted malt is much more prominent as a flavour. The hops carry through too, with more fruity and honey notes followed by an aggressive piney and roasty bitterness.
Great moderately high carbonation, works perfectly! drpimento (3640) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 3, 2012
A little hard to find; down a back street, but in a central downtown location. Super helpfull friendly staff. Cask conditioned ale. Lots of local micros of quality and good imports. Full service bar. Nice Ambiance; very comfortable, cozy. Food menu, including a great appetizer list, looks tasty. Prices are fair for the area. Good music in the background. Beer bottle chandeliers. Sports on flat screen tv. RyanE (145) - British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 6, 2012
Like the label says, it is black. Little bit of dark chocolate brown highlights the dark liquid. Catch the hops on the nose but not a lot else. Nice mouth feel and great balance. KevBrew (37) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 1, 2011
Pours red/black. Molasses, Coffee, Toffee. Pine, Grapefruit, Passion fruit. Very well balanced beer. One of my favourites. Tasted at Galbraiths Ale House.

500ml bottle. Black as a moonless night with big ballsy hop aromas that jump right out of the glass. The thick full beige head crackles as it settles, which takes a while. In the flavour there is some coffee and bitter chocolate. Full silky mouthfeel and long lasting aftertaste with hops playing a starring role in this salute to big American hoppy IPA’s. This is one seriously good beer and another example of the high quality beers coming out of New Zealand at the moment.

Bottle at Papsoe. Pours dark reddish brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is quite malty with notes of citrus, exotic fruit and some roasted notes. The flavour is passion fruit, mango, citrus and only a slight note from the hard roasted malt. Very nice and quaffable!! Oakes (17684) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 9, 2013
American black ipa. Med brown, med head, toasty, grapefruity, minty, chocolatey -fun stuff. Taste is toasty and woody, w light mint and herbal hop. M_Sack (720) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - OCT 7, 2013
Tap @ the taphouse sydney. Wonderful beer. Great example of one of my favourite styles. Very dark brown with small, off white head and good lacing. Lovely aromas of grapefruit, tropical fruits, pine and toasty malt. Citrus and pine flavours dominate, however there is a perfectly integration of roasted malts and a touch of cocoa. Great resiny ipa mouthfeel. blipp (9284) - La Mesa, California, USA - OCT 9, 2015
Draft. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Fruity tropical hops, melon, pear, faint malty notes, a bit of roast, and moderate bitterness throughout. Easily the best of the Croucher lineup that I tried. Good stuff. waiake (606) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - DEC 30, 2015
from bottle that poured an impressive not quite solid black & frothy with a hoppy tropical fruity aroma this tastes really good full of hops & fruity roasty coffee flavours luvly
