Pours a very dark brown colour with small off white head amounting to a few spots and a light ring around the glass after a few minutes with moderate lace. Aromas of grapefruit, tropical fruit, and roasted malts. Flavours are citrus, pine, roasted barley, medium bitterness and overall a bit thin, could use a bit more of a malt backbone. Good beer, not sure if there’s a style for it yet. joe19612 (3131) - camberley, Surrey, ENGLAND - MAR 16, 2014
Tap at Brew Craft pub in Tauranga. Pours a deep black colour with a thin beige head, aroma is grapefruit and sweet malt, taste is roasted malt then some fruit with a dry finish. jonno (3011) - JAPAN - MAY 7, 2011
Bottle. Nose was piney with little roast. Thin mouth feel. More a straight forward IPA. Little roast or chocolate with a decent bitter finish. Solid, but needs more body. bluebetty (1021) - AUSTRALIA - AUG 3, 2011
Bottle. Black pour with dense tan coloured head. Plenty of lacing. Aromas of citrusy hops an some roasted grain. Flavours show a little more of the grain with some roasted bitterness supporting the hops. A touch thin but not a bad beer. anders37 (27577) - Malmö, SWEDEN - APR 2, 2012

Dark beer with ruby highlights, poured with a large frothy head that laced the glass well. Heavy citrusy hopbag aroma, bready malt notes on the nose also. Medium bodied beer, which drinks like an IPA and finishes roasty. Very well balanced beer. Reimer96 (1778) - Alberta, CANADA - FEB 15, 2013
Pours a clear dark brown color with a big frothy light brown head. Aroma is a big citrus burst with fruity tropical fruit esthers like passion fruit and guava. Taste is citrus hops with much of the same tropical fruit flavors and some roasted malts in the background. Not really a black ipa, needs more of the porter aspects to give it more body otherwise this just seems like a sessionable dark hoppy beer. mgermani (1010) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 15, 2013
Pours a near-black mahogany with a thin light-tan head with decent retnetion and some lace. Earthy, chocolate & molasses aroma. Thin but flavourful body, earthy mushroom & light chocolate, guava, moderate hops - decent carbonation. Very pleasant, sessionable beer, however not all that hoppy. Bottle from Plonk. Black, dark chocolate, hoppy orange/citrus aroma, dry roasty malts, resiney, dry bitterness. Nice. Theydon_Bois (21418) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - MAR 19, 2015
Bottle, big thanks to Wingmanwillis and his brother, split on the train to Windsor 17/03/15.
Black with a decent tan cover that retains well.
Nose is light charr, pine, red berry fruit, raisens, spice, light cocoa, liquorice.
Taste is a little thinner than the aroma with pine needle, bitter tropicana, earthy hop, roasted tones, red berry tang.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
Respectable enough CDA.
