Draught at the Crux, Bend, OR as Crux [Banished] Freakcake 2014.
Deep ruby red colour with no head. Very intensive sour berry and fruity aroma with sweetness... Wow! Amazing! Sweet fruit and berries, sourness and tartness. Takes my breath (and soberness) away. Amazing!

Bottle shared by Ken at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours brown, no head, orange glints. Aroma is mildly sour with fruit/cherry notes. Med body or better. Flavor is slightly sour red berry, arguably cherry, with an odd touch of chocolate - like often found in US browns, but not so much in Flemish ales. Finishes towards sour, not very dry, not very bitter, and I think a bit maltier than usual for the style. Nice ale!

marcus (10975) - Sacramento, California, USA - APR 30, 2015
Bottle shared by Kenny at Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours dark brown with a modest beige head and a marvelous fruity aroma. There is a dark fruit and treacle flavor with a mellow sour fruit note and a long dry finish. Delicious.

A Flanders style "Old Bruin" . OK! Kind of fruity. Braggoty? Had it tonight at the Tap and Growler.

EBF. Pours very dark amber/brown with low medium head. Aroma is of fruits. Taste is of some acidity, sugar, weird malts, fruits. Palate: Medium body, soft carbonation. Overall: Not that convincing.

Sample @ EBF.

Appearance: Dark amber with a small bubbly off-white head and little to no lacing.

Aroma: Cherries, oak, bourbon, caramel, cough syrup and mild spiciness.

Taste: Caramel, mild spiciness, moderate fruitiness (cherries, raisins), moderately acidic, vinegar and a bit or rubber.

Palate: Medium body. Medium carbonation. Lingering caramel finish. Rubber notes.

Overall: Lack of balance and direction; I don’t understand what kind of beer the brewer was trying to achieve here (other than a weird attemps at a sour brown). It’s definitely flavorful, but I wouldn’t say tasty and certainly not easily drinkable.
