COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A vibrant reddish-black hue, substantial body and pleasant headiness give this dark Belgain-style ale an alluring first impression. The intense flavors of dark candi sugar conspire to deceive with flavors that remind us of preserved fruits and holiday spicing, but the true agent is the Trappist yeast -- and a suspicious drinkability.

Bottle. Pours dark, reddish brown, with a medium, fizzy, beige head that lingers. The aroma is leather, earth, toffee, plums, dates, and cocoa. Sweet and very malty, with a light, spicy bitterness. Just a little boozy. Heavy body, with a chalky, thick mouthfeel. This is a solid, very malt-forward, and delicious quad. Just a little too much roast, or it would be excellent.

On tap at Baileys taproom. Pours a clear red brown color with a small white head. A big sweet fruity vinous nose. The flavor is big Belgian candy, banana yeast. Pretty good.

500ml bottle. Pours a nice ruddy dirt brown, almost no head. Taste dark cherry, caramel, cranberry...Pretty good stuff, I wouldn’t call this a quad, maybe a big Tripel.

TGG, Seattle. Thin creamy head, dark clear red orange brown. Light round fruit aroma, spicy yeast. Alc burn, fairly heavy weight, esters and tannins in equal measure. Red wine fruitiness, above fruit malt. Just ok.

A decent but forgettable dark. Pours a beautiful deep ruby red with a thin tan head. Not much smell, some dark fruit. Taste is mostly cherry, plum and strawberry and a bit of an empty finish. Had on tap at Bailys Taproom. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2016 500ml bottle. Spicy Belgian yeast aroma with notes of dark fruit and candi sugar. Pours deep amber colored with a thin tan head that has poor retention and lacing. Starts with sweet candi sugar and dark fruit flavors of plum and raisin. Finishes smooth with the spicy Belgian yeast coming through at the end to linger on the palate after each sip. Pretty nice Belgian.

Deep purplish Amber hue with no head. Dark fruity nose full of plum and raisin, with a nice littl Trappist yeast tone. Full and boozy and dusty flavor from the Trappist yeast, the slightest bit of pepper, and a full plum and raisin flavor that’s semisweet and a touch boozy. Very faint orange zest whisper.

375ml bottle - unique pour...mahogany color, clear, reddish hue and virtually no head. Big Belgian aroma with ripe fruit, clove, ripe banana, earth and maybe some bubblegum. Malt and yeast dominant flavors like more ripe fruit (cherry, plum, raisin, berry, banana), spice, sweet tea and caramel. No roastiness or hop presence.

Bottle - pours lightly hazy purple - nose of caramelized sugars, plums, raisin, phenols if clove, pepper, smoke- creamy texture, low carbonation - sweet, but not cloyingly so, with well-masked alcohol, and a light tartness and finishing earthy a spicy phenolic profile that balances the sweetness well - well-executed for an American rendition.
