12oz bottle pours a translucent, deep brown with some thin, creamy, off white head. Nose is soured, some dried cherry, some red wine vinegar, some nettles, a little soured red grape. Flavor has a distinct tobacco leaf thing happening, sour notes, dried cherry, some cooked greens, a little rice wine vinegar. Full, sour finish. Bad. Way, way off. gnoff (10793) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - APR 14, 2014

Black color, teal to tan head. Acidic, light vinegar, some roasted notes scent. Acidic, light roasted taste. Acidic aftertaste. Fizzy mouthfeel, low to very low bitterness.
Tap at CS taproom - dark ruby with a thick, sudsy head - aromas of wood, moderate acidity, dough, chocolate, mild oak - a little thin bodied - flavor is moderately acidic (acetic acid), which covers up the some of the other qualities of the beer (oak, chocolate, toffee) - the alcohol is in no way apparent, so kudos there - the sad thing is that the acidic character is far to strong and covers up the other compexities of the beer - this seems to be a fairly common problem for this brewer - infection - sometimes works in their favor - often times doesn’t. budznsudz (583) - Audubon, New Jersey, USA - AUG 8, 2013
Pours really dark brown with a thin ring of tan head. Really nice aroma of oak and vanilla. Unfortunately, the taste falls flat. It’s very one dimensional. Bland and a waste of time. emacgee (4704) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - APR 30, 2013
Clean garnet/dark copper with one finger of creamy mocha tan head. Vanilla in the nose with some oxidation (papery...) and booze. Vanilla and pepper flesh/capsaicin, burnt sugar, dark fruit, oak. Medium body and warming finish.

Bottle shared by emacgee - thanks, dude! Nice pour with tons of vanilla in the nose (even if little in the way of actual rum notes). Still a slight sharpness and tartness, though nothing as horrid as the stout. Barrel character pretty one-dimensional and there’s not a whole lot to the base beer. Okay. travita (5006) - Dallas, Texas, USA - FEB 3, 2013
Bottle. The smell is malt balls, chocolate cherries, raisins, wood, vanilla and ok. The look is dark, eggshell colored head, brown black color. The taste is alcohol, malt, wood, chocolate, and good. jkwalking05 (4743) - Arlington, Texas, USA - FEB 3, 2013
Black in color with a small beige head. Aroma is of cherry, chocolate, roasted malts, wood, toffee, vanilla. Taste is of booze, dark chocolate, bing cherries, oak, vanilla. Ernest (7788) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 14, 2013
Head is initially small, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark brown to black.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (caramel, molasses, chocolate, roasted grain), with notes of pickles/vinegar, wood, alcohol, whiskey, raisin.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
The aroma is not without some pleasant aspects, but I cannot escape the awful vinegary pickle smell, it makes me want to retch (hate hate hate pickles partly because I really dislike the odor of vinegar, always have). The acetic acid is quite apparent in the mouth as well. Without that flaw, this would probably rate in the low to mid 3s, so it’s really a shame. Bottle poured a hazy dark reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of rum, brown sugar, oak, carmel, toffee and light fruittiness. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of rum, oak, carmel, toffee and a hint of fruittiness with a smooth lingering rum finish.
