From a bottle, likely 2011.
Aroma is fairly malty with a ton of caramel, toasted bread and toffee. Medium light honey and faint wet cardboard oxidation. No hop aroma. Medium raisin, sugar plums and prunes. Light alcohol spice. Faint hints of roast and treacle.
Pours a cloudy, burnt amber with some brown colorings and a thin, tan head that quickly receded leaving just a hint of bubbles on the edges. Light lacing and sheets of alcohol, not legs.
Flavor has a light sweetness with moderate malt character. Moderate caramel and toasted bread with lighter toffee notes. Faint roast and chocolate. Medium bitterness with no hop flavor. Medium light oxidation notes of wet cardboard. Light alcohol spice.
Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth.
Overall an interesting Mexican beer, and likely the most flavorful I have had. The oxidation helps round the beer but also detracts with the wet cardboard notes. Lots of nice malt complexity. Very clean beer. SudsMcDuff (8564) - .....Manchester United.........., Texas, USA - MAY 30, 2013

Bottle from South Bay Drugs: I never even noticed this until it was pointed out to me by my friend but it sounded real good and like a real treat. The aroma is caramel based malt with a whiff of alcohol. Appearance is a dark mahogany color with a puffy small head which dies in a matter of seconds after the pour. Flavors are rich with sweetness and a bit of bitterness. Pours a copper color with a small tan head. Sweet and fruity on the nose with plenty of caramel, sugar, and toffee. A light toastiness, some floral hops, and a hint of alcohol. The flavor has a mild bitterness, alcohol, and lots of malt notes. Some toasted bread, caramel, and toffee notes. A light fruitiness to the beer, which I find enjoyable. Not much carbonation when popping the cap. Pours a light tan three fingered head. Murky brown umber body. Sweet aroma. Wonderfully malty sweetness with an alcoholic backbone. Reminds me a lot of that British barley wine with the devil on the label, whose name is escaping me right now. Bit of warming in the throat. Cloudy orange brown color with little to no head. Big malty aroma with some oak, caramel and port. Rich and sweet malty flavor with toffee, molasses and dark fruits. Could have used some more carbonation. Felicidades to this Mexican brewery for creating a bar that’s up there with its neighbor’s in terms of a tasty and solid barleywine.
