smells slightly aged and sherry-like, with a sweet molasses background, some charred sugar, and a smidgen of hops. THe color was a nice glowing chestnut, but the head was so too thin and revealing. Very smokey and charred-sugar like flavors..balancing hop character...I like the smokey rustic nature of this though the mouthfeel is too wet and I wish it was thicker and/or creamier. Other than mouthfeel, I think the flavors are nicely unique...It hides the alcohol rather well, though you can certainly feel the warmth in your belly. 750ml. Pours a dark and lightly hazy blood red color. A small, foamy, khaki colored head settles to a thin film, leaving scattered, spotty lacing on the glass. The nose is pretty true to the English barleywine style, caramel and nougat driven, with notes of light toffee and dark fruit. Mild earthy and floral hops lend nice balance. Flavors mirror the nose, rich and malty with loads of toffee and caramel. Mild cocoa roast and earthy hops keep the sweetness in check. The mouthfeel is pretty solid, substantial without being cloying and balanced on the tongue. Damn solid brew. About 110% better than your average Mexican beer. redlight (2325) - Orlando, Florida, USA - MAY 5, 2009
thanks to Beerlando for this one! Rich caramel malts on the nose, molasses and toffee with hints of citrus. Pours a reddish amber with a thin white head. Rich malts, creamy mouthfeel, caramel malts, toffee, light molasses, with hints dates, citrusy hops in the finish. Probably the best beer i’ve had from mexico! Bottle sampled at DLD. Poured a brown red with a tan head. Fruity nose, red fruit, sweet malts and fruity hops. Cherries and red fruit flavors, lots of caramel malt with a light bitterness. Decent beer, especially for coming from across the border.

Bottle sent to me by Rustychiles. Shared at DLD hotel tasting. Brown body with a decent tan head. The nose was lots of caramel malt and an almost maple scent. A bit on the thin side with low carbonation--which is cool with me for this style. The flavor was sweet maple and caramel with a slight hop kick. pantanap (3367) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 1, 2009
750ml bottle. shared by miketd at dlday....poured an amber brown with a thin off-white head... caramel malt, dark fruit, and a fair bit of smoke in the nose... smoke and tobacco along with sweet caramel malt flavorwise. almost had some smokey tequila resemblance in some sips. very different and unique spin on a barleywine. daknole (11048) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - APR 29, 2009
DLD! Amber pour. Lots of sweetness on the nose...caramel, toffee, sugar, and boozy. Flavor is sweet, caramel, leathery and a nice light bitter finish. Glad i got to try this. Good stuff. Ughsmash (7502) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 28, 2009
750mL bottle at DLD. Poured deep amber with a well-retained cap of tan head. The aroma was warm and very sweet with caramel and souring fruits leading the way. The flavor was sugary and warm with caramel and toffee at the core.. touches of brown sugar graced the edges, along with earthy bitterness and mild oxidation.. solid! Medium-bodied and rather grainy on the palate with low carbonation.. OK feel and flow. IrishBoy (4252) - Bakersfield, California, USA - APR 24, 2009
750 ml bottle from Country Club Liquors. Nose of toffee, caramel, and a smoky hint. Clear cherry brown with a very small beige head. Flavor is light with mild bitterness, caramel, and a little alcohol. Not bad for an English style, Mexican barleywine.
