Bottle shared by ucusty - thanks, David! Pour was a bit dull, with a flattish body and bright hue. The nose wasn’t bad, with some maple and caramel in there. Waxy and somewhat thin palate. Lots of booze in the flavor, with somewhat predictable peat and molasses to give shape to the malts. Meh.

Thanks to Hellbilly for this one! Clear copper pour thick tan head and spotty lace. Caramel malts, peat a slight earthiness on the nose. Light smokey flavor combined with caramel and sausage. Flavor was lacking the hop profile I am accustomed to

Thanks to ucusty for sharing. Pours a reddish copper with a one finger light orange yellow head. The aroma is mild and sweet, peaty, some caramel, molasses. The flavor is smoky, peaty, some bacon?, mild acetaldehyde, malty, caramel, nice bitterness. The palate is waxy and bitter.

Had 2 bottles at the London Pub in Hermosillo, Mexico on St. Patrick’s Day. Was very surprised and impressed by this barley wine... I was worried that my trip to Mexico on business would be spent trying to imagine that the Negro Modelo actuall had more flavor than it did. The Cucapa poured dark with a little head, and the aroma was strong and malty. Taste was rich and reminded me favorably of comparisons with an Old Guardian. Looking forward to finding more of this back home in LA.

Medium reddish brown pour. Aromas of caramel malt and meyer lemon. Flavor has sweet malt, subtle floral hops, and candied lemon. It is a bit thin on the palate, and could be more refined overall. Not a bad offering.

Beautiful red pour. Caramel and orange peel aroma. Flavor is like dry Mexican chocolate. Nice.

Bottle: Thanks FlacoAlto! Pours an amber color with good clarity and a tan ring of head. Decent aroma- some standard Barley Wine notes of caramelized amber malt, mild dark fruit- as well as toasted coconut and a touch of toffee. Slick and warming feel. The flavor is less developed than the aroma- has what a Barley Wine should, but it’s simple and a bit off- Upfront there’s a caramel and dark fruit note, yet it precedes a cheap bittering hop character on the back which is inky, metallic and astringent. Homogeneous peppery ethanol is apparent as well. Low quality hops and apparent fusels makes this one tough to drink.

750ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours a dark amber color with a small head that rapidly dissipates and leaves no lacing. The aroma is sweet with caramel and dark fruits. The taste is overtly malty with caramel, black cherries, dates and licorice. There is a touch of hot alcohol, but nothing that is too distracting. The mouthfeel is full and malty. The finish is medium in duration with lingering anise. Overall: The first Mexican concoction that I have had that stands its own with the craft beer best. I very much enjoyed this tasty brew.

Shared by Notalush. Lots of cereal grains, caramel in the aroma, pretty sweet. Similar flavor with a fairly rough body, tough carbonation. A bit too sweet for the most part.
