3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A very pine grapefruit centric black IPA. I love the grapefruit taste on the palate. For 7.2% ABV, this is a must drink. Very smooth and mellow! Good brew Culture!
On tap @ Culture Ocean Beach. Kind of a cloudy/turbid beer that’s more dark brown and has a khaki colored head. Smells of roasted malts, coffee, and ash more than anything. I don’t get the hop character I would expect from this beer. Really just completely malt driven. This tastes quite bitter and even astringent. Chalky, maybe? I do get some grapefruit peel and pine at least...but it doesn’t really save the beer. BeerandBlues2 (13872) - Escondido, California, USA - AUG 14, 2016
Draught at the brewery. Pours black with a medium, frothy beige head, long retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy dank and herbal hops with roast malt and prunes. Flavor is heavy dank and herbal hops and bitterness, roast and chocolate malt with prunes and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation. Birrananda (44) - - OCT 11, 2015

"Almost black pour. This ale is hearty. Roasted espresso, slight fig, and loads of citrus andpine and spice to balance both the flavor and nose. A very solid black IPA, that finished dry and bitter."
Tap, black pour, small head, nose and taste are both coffee, decent hops but nothing too crazy GT (10017) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 25, 2014

>> Deep red pour. Weaker tan bubbles. Solid grilled pineapple nose with flashes of soy and vegetable, grilled fruit skewer. Taste is bitter, nutty, clean bitterness. Palate is chalky, weaker. It’s okay, not great.
Pours a dark brown-black with a small tan head with nice lacing. Aroma is of citrus, pine, grassy hops, toasted sweet malts, and some coco. Taste is similar tot he aroma with a little more malts in the finish. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a slightly dry, moderately bitter, medium-long finish. Overall, a pretty tasty black IPA. boFNjackson (4230) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 1, 2013
Tap @ Culture... Poured dark brown with a moderate tan head. Aroma of mild roast with earthy spiced, pine and citrus-like hops. Same hop characters came in the flavor profile too with charred grains. Drying mouthfeel, a little abrasive at times too. Pretty par for the style.
