BlackHaddock (7696) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - JUN 15, 2016
Visited the Solana Beach home of the brewery on 28th May 2016 and had 12 x 3oz pours of their beers on tap: this was one of them. Slight haze to my golden pour, white top. Mild citrus leanings to this brew from the Cascade hops, fairly dry finish, liked it.

Draft at the brewery. Poured a clear, light amber color with a small white head. Aroma was pleasant, light hop notes, light fruit even. Flavor was nicely balanced hop notes, perhaps a touch earthy. Not bad.

On tap. Slightly funky pineapple and pine aroma with light base malt in the background. Almost clear pale copper under a white collar and wisps. Flavour is quite bitter for the style, with grapefruit pith bitterness and flavour, some light pine accents and a weak base malt backbone. Crisp, medium light body, medium carbonation.

On draft at the brewery. Clear golden pour, with a white head. Citrus, fruity, grapefruit, cracker, and mild sweetness. Decent.

Keg at the Solana Beach taproom, 14/11/14. Golden orange with a decent off white covering. Nose is citric peel, melon, vanilla, light bread dough. Taste comprises bread dough, vanilla, grassy, lemon rinds. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Dullish pale, limited hop presence.

[ Keg ][ 3oz ][ Culture ][ $1.25 ][ Tulip Stemware ][ 10.26.14 ]
>> Clear, bright straw pour. Medium white foam. Nose off the bat is ethyl acetate/nail polish moving to grassy hops, fresh white grapefruit. Taste is quite bitter, grassy, soapy, bitter, clean, decent, bitter grapefruit peel. Palate is super clean, nice crackery malt background. No specialty malt nonsense.

On tap at source...pretty good, standard cascade pale ale...good clone of Sierra nevada pale ale.

On tap at brewery, such a great pale, nice hoppy but not over top, really nice grain characteristics perfect for day at beach

3.5
blipp (9710) - La Mesa, California, USA - AUG 28, 2014
Draft. Pours gold with a white head. Light fruity hops, leaning toward the citrus side of hoppy notes, with light to moderate bitterness, and an appropriate amount of sweet malt character (read: it’s present, but not too strong). Good stuff; very drinkable.
