330ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a medium head. Aroma is slightly sour, woody, coffee and dark fruits. Taste has woody coffee to start. Dark fruity coffee finish.

33cl bottle. Poured a clear dark brown with a short-lived frothy off white head. The aroma is caramel malt, chocolate, roast, smoky liquorice.The flavour is liquorice bitter, light sweet with a smooth, dry roasty, charcoal, liquorice hop bitter palate. 330ml dark bottle, unfiltered, bought and drunk in Mettricks, Woolston with Myles. It's OK. A dark malt beer. Quite modest. Some vanilla notes from being kept in oak barrels. It's quite a thing this oak flavouring for both wine and beer. For me, it tends to work better with wine, but even there it tends to give the beer a sort of trendy, modern feel, which gives it a sort of attitude that I feel slightly at a distance from. I like some of the acidic tartness that can come from storing beer in the wood - such as can be had from 6X when served from wooden casks. But I am less excited about the vanilla flavouring gained from storing in fresh oak. Each to their own. On the whole I found this to be an unremarkable beer. Bottle. Creamy off-white good mostly lasting head. Black colour. Moderate malty and hoppy aroma. Moderate bitter flavor. NIce licorice notes. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate.

Bottle @Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor. Pours almost black but with a slight brownness to it nice thick tan head. Nose is chocolate, slight coffee, fruity, slight dried cranberry. 330ml bottle from a friend. Pours a dark brown with slight reddish tinges. Aroma is subdued, roast coffee, slight licorice. Flavor is strong roastiness, fruity and with a sweet finish.
