From notes. Enjoyed at the hotel before FoBAB with Gus, Todd, and Ed on November 11. 22 oz bottle. The pour is a nice dark black color with a thick dense cap of light tan head and a couple spots of lace as it falls to a film. Not too shabby. The aroma is pretty interesting. There is a lot of cognac sweetness and a strong oak. There is a dark fruitiness to this one that I don’t necessarily get in a bunch of Cycle stouts. The roasted malts and a light chocolate open up a little on the back end with a strong oak finish. The flavor is much of the same. There is a lot of sweet cognac and a distinct wet oak happening. There is a light chocolate and a bit of scorched malt on the back end. It’s not as smooth as the nose, but it’s still pretty decent. The mouth feel is medium bodied with a brighter soft carbonation and a lingeringly sweet cognac and oak finish. (On tap @ CBC 2016 Blue Session, Copenhagen) Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is quite sweet and smooth, molasses, sweet grape and raisin, dark fruit, low roast. On the tongue, very long on raisin flavours and short on roast, though not as sweet as the nose. Quite fruity, red grapes in syrup, toasty burnt crackers, dark malts, semi-sweet turns fairly dry on the finish with a little toast bitterness, short finish and aftertaste. Lightish watery body for style with low carbonation. I feel like this was maybe a bit cold even though I tried to warm it, but it was was a lot less rich than I expected. 22, capped. Thanks, N, J, or R! I lost track. Pours an opaque dark mahogany with a thin burnt tan head. Big sweet nose, candy-like, lots of cognac. Creamy thick body, a bit sticky, with lively carb. On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2016. This one has a deep dark brown colored body, small soft sidesticking brown head. Smells mainly bourbon and wood. A little boozy, some dark chocolate and a little licoroce. Nice. Tastes more more balanced than the aroma. Not boozy at all, but warming. Thick and oily in the mouth and it’s just below average on the prickling carbonation. Chocolate burnt, a little acidity. Coffee perhaps and a little sweet marzipan in the aftertaste . Blue Session 2016. Black colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, some cognac, liquorice, vanilla and mild alcohol. Flavour is ripe fruits, chocolate, coffee, liquorice, alcohol and some cognac notes.
Bottle received in trade. Viscous creamy black pour with a creamy mocha head. Heavy malty roasty nose with light cognac BA presence. Light grapes, dark bread, wet stone & cognac alcohol. Black with small brown head. Aroma is cognac, roastwd with cocoa, offee, hints of vanilla, some toffee.
Taste is sweet, malty smooth roasted, light bozzy. Medium to full bodied, smooth, soft carbonation. Finish is malty, smooth roasted bitterness, cocoa, cognac, light nutty, some light woody notes.
