On tap at the brewery. Originally reviewed 3/8/2013.
Jet black. Just a little bit of a khaki head.
Smell has tons of vanilla. A bucket of rum. Some chocolate. Vanilla all over.
Tastes of intense vanilla. Outrageous amount of rum that blends well with the vanilla. Overpowers the stout. Chocolatey but really rummy. Hot rum finish. Earthy bitterness in the back.
Extremely boozy. Too much. Chewy.
I don’t remember RareR being this hot. Harsh but the vanilla tastes good.
Edit: Had this a second time and it was better. Changed my numbers. beechner224 (1024) - Melbourne, Florida, USA - AUG 15, 2015
Tap to plastic cap at bewery. Pour black wit htan head. Aroma is malt, chocolate, biter chocolate, but just mild vanilla. Taste is the same, minimal vanilla, I want more. Very good beer, just want more nilla. Marsiblursi (3083) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 16, 2013
(Bottle) pours black with a brown head. Chocolate, deep roast, rum, vanilla and wood/cedar. Perfect sweet, balanced bitter and tiny acidic. Round and smooth with a fat body. Roasted and vanilla finish. Really well made. _angst_ (5009) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 16, 2013
Bottle courtesy of tkrjukoff. Pours velvety black with a rather small creamy dark mocha head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet and malty with roasted malts, high quality dark chocolate, rum soaked raisins, dark roast coffee, moist soil, alcohol, vanilla beans, sweet dark bread, burnt caramel, sweet liquorice candy and oatmeal cookies. Taste is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, high quality chocolate, dark roast coffee, vanilla beans, rum soaked raisins, dates, brown sugar, alcohol, charred peppery wood, alcohol, sweet dark bread, black pepper corns, roasted nuts and very subtle hints of solvent. Mouthfeel is thick, round, smooth, velvety, very tiny roasted astringent and full bodied. finish is bitter with roasted malts, vanilla beans, rum soaked raisins, high quality dark chocolate, moist soil, charred wood, vanilla fudge and hints of liquorice. Very very nice... I get a bit distracted by the vanilla and keep my fingers crossed I’ll come across an uninfected bottle of the original some day. rlgk (18843) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 16, 2013

Swing top bottles (batches 2 and 3) - thanks, Kevin! Pours dark brown with no head. Aroma of caramel, cola; chocolate; vanilla. Basically smells like liquid chocolate candy corn! Taste: chocolate candy corn, I’m sticking with it. Some oxidation, some rum, but mostly candy corn. Newer batch tasted / smelled of buttered rum, which I found somewhat unappealing. Viscous, slick texture. I really liked the (older, non-buttery) batch a lot. hopscotch (11418) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 19, 2013
Growler… This beer rocks!… Pours tar black with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Fantastic retention. The aroma offers a rich, complex swirl of big-time vanilla, cocoa, pouch tobacco, coconut, brown sugar, caramel and dark rum. Full-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and soft carbonation. The flavor offers a generous measure of strong dark rum, fresh-sticky vanilla beans, charred oak and coconut. Boozy, red-hot rum lingers a short while after each sip. I can absolutely feel the alcohol on its way down my throat and into my stomach. Comforting. Another world class effort brewed by Doug and generously shared by ctipping! Also, congratulations to Doug on the opening of Cycle Brewing in St. Pete this past weekend! SrSilliGose (3324) - pouring bus, New Brunswick, CANADA - AUG 3, 2013
Another courtesy high boost brew tossed my way by thealum. Holy tamole. Big fudgy chocolate with a surprisingly pleasant clean vanilla presence. Some rum cake. Milk chocolate. Fine. CanIHave4Beers (4236) - Pouring Bus, Iowa, USA - JUL 30, 2013
My first pour @ Mr. & Mrs. Edmund’s wedding reception, courtesy tossed by TheAlum.
Pours a deep black colro with a small well retained head. phaleslu (10895) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 29, 2013
The aroma is rich & chocolaty, lightly smoky with a little bit of woodiness. Sweet, but not offputtingly so.
The flavor is sweet and rich, some really nice vanilla expression & oakiness. There is a good roasty bitterness balancing the fudgy sweet chocolaty notes pretty damned well.
What a nice stout.
500 ml swingtop growler shared by TheAlum- thanks again, Adam! This is the 3/8/13 dated Nooner. Rum-vanilla. Pours a deep, opaque near-black color with brown edges and a tiny ring of beige. Vanilla and rum both really pop here. Rich chocolate, molasses, coffee, brown sugar, caramel, and a little bit of raisins. Medium-bodied, with an oily, smooth mouthfeel and low carbonation. Decadent. This was very, very tasty.
