From tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty, breadish to slight liqourice. Dark malty, liqourice and caramelish. Sweet and roasted finish. Lasting liqourice note.
Earlier Rating: 7/8/2008 Total Score: 3.2
From tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with a redish glare and a lacing light tan head. Solid roasted malt and liqourice accent. Flavour is dry and of roasted malt and liqourice. Ends dry and roasted with a mild acidity lurking through and light liqourice into the finish.

fiulijn (20493) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 29, 2006
Draught at the brewpub
Black color. Light aroma of roasted malt. The body is not strong enough; less smooth than the others, with some dry roasted malt. Low bitterness.

Koelschtrinker (20398) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 29, 2011
Malzig-röstiger Antrunk, die Röstigkeit als stärkstes Aroma wird schnell mild, spät auch wässrig. Lasch, zum Ende langweilig. 10/6/7/6//6

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2013 Draught at the brewpub. Pours almost black with a nice lasting brownish head. Roasted coffee aroma, caramel, soot, dark bread, dark chocolate, metal notes. Roasted coffee flavor, dark chocolate, soot, some hoppy bitterness. Quite nice. Old rating from 2006: 2.8 Very dark amber, almost black, and with a great lasting brownish head. Malty, burnt aroma with some hops. Quite weak flavor, some hops, but not as much malt as I would have preferred.

On tap at the brewery tap. Black beer, lasting beige head. Not a tremendous aroma, some dark malts, quite good in mouth with a drying powder coffe finish. Quite good strength. Cross between a dark lager and a porter. Fine

Oakes (17676) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 1, 2011
Chestnut brown. Toasty, coffeeish character. Very chocolatey, with light munich dark malt character. Perhaps a bit thinner in the finish than I would like, but otherwise good tmave.
