Darker orange or more like amber. Nice soft fruity hoppy nose, some sweet caramel there as well. Taste is relatively weaker bodied than nose would reveal. Sweetish but not sticky, fryiry and drinking dangerously easy. fiulijn (21511) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 20, 2016
Tasting at Matt’s; vintage 2015Oakes (19409) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 20, 2016
Hazy amber color, small head. Smells a bit like wheat wine, which is not promising; medium body strength, wheat wine flavor, so mostly candyish and cloying. A bit sour in the end.
Not very good.
Has a light amber, some haziness. No head. The nose has some caramel, soft body, and a sugary finish. Bit toasty. Just sort of OK, won’t age that well, and doesn’t have a lot of nuance. mcberko (19837) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 20, 2016
330mL bottle, pours a hazy dark orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out bready malt, toasted caramel, and a little oxidation. Flavour is more of an English-style barley wine, with toasted bread, dry caramel and English malt. Medium sweetness for the style. Not overly complex, but it’s alright. Solid. Rating #13000. Murky brown color, small off-white head. Aroma has toffee, alcohol, tart fruits, hints of vinegar. Medium to full-bodied. Toffee, tart fruits, yeastyness. Alcohol in the finish. Dessert beer with odd cellary vibe. Perharps aging has not gone totally ok.
Daisen G Beer is hands down one of my favourite brewery’s in Japan, and whilst this is a great beer, i can’t help but feel a little disappointed. For me this doesn’t have the mouth feel of a barley wine, and whilst it is very well balanced it seems a little lacking in the boldness I would associate with barley wine. shoulderbroken (4256) - Tokyo, JAPAN - JUL 6, 2013
Tap at Yellow Ape. Amber coloured, not much head. Aroma bit fruity, mostly toffee, malty. Taste is nice, malty, sweet. Slightly savoury. Pretty good. End of a long day of beer but was a good finisher. KansaiBeerLvrs (5501) - Kyoto, JAPAN - JUN 24, 2013
9% popped this bottle of Daisen G’s 2012 Barleywine to celebrate hitting 200 likes on my page Kansai Beer Lovers. It pours a wonderful amber with a quickly dissipating head. A great fruity aroma of plum, figs and some port like notes. The taste isn’t as complex as other barleywines but it is full-bodied and the flavor has caramel at first then a nice rich malty sweetness followed by mild warming from the alcohol. Solid. maekchu (4104) - Hirakata, JAPAN - JAN 3, 2013
Bottle. 2006 vintage. Sugary sweet toffee aroma. Golden with ruby tints. Very sweet initial, whatever original hopping it had seems to have disappeared; mid palate give a bit of tang, along with toffee and butter; final is smooth and mild. Thin-medium body. Held up quite well. A light sort of barley wine. Smooth and tasty.
