maekchu (4069) - Hirakata, JAPAN - JUL 21, 2017
On tap at BeerFes Osaka 2017. Thin fruity nose, a bit floral, light alcohol fumes, some yeastiness. A melange of light clear fruit and mild bitterness, all very smooth and gentle. Restrained flavors. Very delicate, except for the 7% alc., which kind of stands out against the thin fruit background.

On tap at Raku. Pours a orangeish color with a large white head. A big bready funky nose. Fresh lemon, rice, earthy notes, sort of a funky note. Quite nice.

HonusWagner (2232) - Florida, USA - AUG 15, 2016
Strong yeast character in the nose with little hop presence and a hint of alcohol. The beer is quite sweet for how lively its carbonation is. I’m not a fan but it’s at least kinda interesting.

Cloudy. Light tan. Has a yeasty nose. Has a dry character with a light fruity touch.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Big yeast-forward driven nose with some sake notes. More saison like notes come out as it warms. Average carbonation with a medium to medium heavy body. Sweet on the palate but not too cloying. The yeast really keeps things interesting. Slightly peppery on the finish. Very enjoyable for fans of Belgian styles.

Golden color. Thin white head. Big, distinctive yeasty character with sweet malty backbone. The base beer is a bit off and cloying but I enjoy the yeast character.

GenkiGonzo (1096) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 21, 2015
Draught at Bakuon festival. Cloudy gold with a fluffy head. Fruity and yeasty aroma. Is sweeter than I expected but a nice full-bodied drink.

A beer made with sake yeast. 6.5% On tap at Beer Komachi a nice bare bones place in a neglected shopping arcade near Higashiyama station. The beer pours a fairly clear gold with a fruity, yoghurty aroma. The taste clearly owes a great deal to the yeast, yoghurt lactic quality, tart fruitiness and a dry palate cleansing finish. Really interesting and probably one of the better sake-beer hybrids out there.

KyotoLefty (10726) - Kyoto, JAPAN - OCT 2, 2014
Bottle from Yamaoka. Orange-gold color, hazy, tall, fine head. Fruity nose, rice, malt, wheat, estery. Sweet, fruity, spicy flavor. You can taste the ginjo yeast. Lemon, melon, peaches, lots of orange, light bitterness, light funk. Interesting stuff. Too sweet to be super drinkable, but tasty.

3.9
Wombata (627) - Kobe, JAPAN - SEP 4, 2014
Tap at Enibru
Aroma:
Palate: Medium-full-bodied.
Flavor: Sweet pear, grain, hint of caramel, mikan, a light coffee note (?) and some sake character on the finish.
Comment: Brewed with a strong-flavored rice using sake yeast. This attacks and just goes on and on. The mikan, pear and sake flavors just don’t quit. Gains complexity as it warms. I have to retaste to get the aroma.
