UPDATED: MAR 27, 2007 Dark chestnut colour. Sweetish malt aroma, but an unexpected (but pleasant) bitterness to go with the malt on the palate. Just a hint of licorice too. Quite clean and surprisingly easy to drink for a beer of this strength. In fact, if anything, a bit thin. (or, at least, thinner than anticipated). Decent, but not terribly exciting. Fra fat på Briar Rose, Birmingham 21 Sep 16. Mørkebrun. 0 skum. Aroma av karamell. Smaken det samme. Søt. Grei men uvariert. larsga (7509) - Oslo, NORWAY - AUG 24, 2008
Big beige head. Deep dark red translucent body. Sweet malty aroma with earthy toffee and floral hop notes. Dry-sweet roasty earthy malt taste with chocolate notes. Soft, mild mouthfeel, with what feels like mild alcohol burn (at 5.3%?). Dry burnt earthy aftertaste. Very nice! (0.5l bottle, Systembolaget, Göteborg.) Sigmund (7395) - Tau, NORWAY - JUN 21, 2007
500 ml bottle, bought in Scarborough. Possibly filtered, but probably not pasteurised. ABV is 5.3%. As a cask ale it was voted "Champion Winter Beer of Britain 1998". Chestnut coloured beer, rich off-white to beige head. Very nice malty aroma with oaky and vinous notes, also caramel and dark fruits. Malty flavour with caramel, some raisiny and vinous notes, moderate hops. Moderate carbonation, soft mouthfeel. A pleasant beer to drink. Nisse666 (7328) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - FEB 14, 2010

Hand pulled pint at a Spoons in Tamworth before a Grimsby Town night match on 27th March 2012.
Ruby/mid-brown coloured brew with an off-white head of closely knit bubbles.
Aroma was both malty and fruity.
Taste wise: it was again malty and fruity, a drier hop bitterness comes late on the palate but this is a primary a malty brew. Body depth is good and the alcohol sits well within the whole feel. olsvammel (7220) - Örebro, SWEDEN - SEP 13, 2009
It poured a very dark amber liquid with a small foam. It had a smell of caramell and malt. It tasted malty and caramell with some sweetness. It also had a slight alcoholic finish. It was a bit dry but easy to drink and a bit boring. MesandSim (7117) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 25, 2008

Nice red brown colour but no head. Straight forward but nicely balanced malt and hops aroma. Alcohol shows in the mouth but in a really pleasing way. Creamy caramel malt, nice bitterness in the finish with some lingering vanilla after. An enjoyable all rounder.
Copper colour with an off-white head.
Quite malty aroma with some toffee and chocolate.
Some licorice and tropical fruits in the flavour.
Pretty sweet and malty. ekstedt (6755) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - APR 2, 2008
Bottle (50 cl) from Systembolaget. Clear copper with a medium off-white stable head. Quite anonymous malt aroma, some dried fruits and herbal and earthy hops. Medium bodied and smooth. Dry finish.
