Since I finally made it to one of the pubs on the "must visit" list just a few days before heading home I chose to go with some local pints. This is a decent golden ale although calling it "memorable" is a bit of a stretch. However I would put it a notch or two above the median.
Aroma / Appearance - The transparent rose gold body traps only a bit of light. A soft white head persists despite a gentle pour. Starchy and dry it sort of sticks in the air with smell of grainy cheerios and orange polish.
Flavor / Palate - The mouthfeel is creamy as most cask ales are. Orange rinds, dry wheat toast, and a full body give it a nice profile from start to finish. It is not exceedingly complex but is fair for a sessionable golden ale. Among their beers this is somewhere in the middle of the pack.
Cask at The Bell, waltham St Lawrence. Pale gold with a ring of white head; grainy aroma; quite full bodied and grainy with some apple and spice; the a touch of tart grapefruit with some lemon sherbert to finish. Satisying, yes, memorable, no. Beermack (725) - London, ENGLAND - FEB 28, 2013
Cask at WJK, Dublin. Deep golden pour, white head. Aroma is orange, light spice, biscuit, some citrus. Taste follows suit with plenty of orange notes, citrus, fairly earthy spice notes, biscuit, and light honey notes. Medium bitterness. This is pretty much fine, but nothing out of the ordinary. superflyguy (439) - Leeds, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - APR 10, 2012
