Mead tasting Taphouse. Ceramic bottle. 16 years old mead. Aroma dominated by alcohol. Other notes are of course of honey but apart from that also some spicyness and a hint of apples. Very sweet apples spices flavor with a good deal of alcohol. Long sweet finish. NORSAND (107) - Lillestrøm, NORWAY - AUG 10, 2014
Non vintage. Bottle aged for 10 years after purchase. 14.8 % ABV.
Tasting notes by memory:
Amber colour. Appealing, complex and sweet nose with honey, herbs and spices.
Rich and sweet (but not overly sweet) taste, complex, rounded, and well balanced. Did not in any way appear to be (too) old. The 14.8% alcohol was perfectly integrated.
Although stored cold, within a few weeks after opening the mjød had lost part of its freshness and appeal and in particular the nose had undergone a negative transformation. So the advice is: Storing quality mjød can be rearding, but once opened, do (presumably) as the old vikings and drink it up! Rasmus40 (20639) - Beder, Aarhus, DENMARK - MAR 26, 2013
