Bottle from Silphium...thanks Brad! - Pours ruby amber, clear with an thin off-white head. Nose still with some a lot of heat, but I guess not bad for 15%. Raisins, a bit of caramel, candi sugar, but the smell is kind of vaguely sweet under the booziness. Taste is caramel and butterscotch, with some dark chocolate, booze, and bitter roast. Pretty watery, though slick and smooth. Expected way more out of this. Maybe I should have put it in the cellar longer. markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - SEP 11, 2010
Thanks to the Tampa crew for sharing this one. Pours dark amber with an off-white head. Nose is malt, booze, toffee, caramel, dates, plums, slight hops, and alcohol. Flavor is caramel, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, slight tart sweetness, and finishing sugary goodness. Medium bodied and enjoyable overall. jake65 (3978) - Meridian, Idaho, USA - AUG 22, 2010
Bottle - thanks Cletus! Pours a pure amber with a short lived, thin beige head. Nose is rich with caramel, vinous bits, brown sugar, citrus, and some sherry. Drinks smoother than silk. Wonderfuly creamy, yet soft and buttery. Light florals, citrus, caramel, and that’s it. Not complicated, just sip it for an hour and relax. Delightful anders37 (26824) - Malmö, SWEDEN - AUG 22, 2010
Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a sweetish malty dark fruit aroma. Sweetish malty caramel and dark fruit flavor. Has a sweetish warming malty dark fruit and caramel finish with some weak hints of chocolate in the aftertaste. BDR (2534) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - AUG 10, 2010
Hazy brown with off white head. A wonderful sweet aroma with raisins, carmel, chocolate, and cherries. Perhaps one fo the more accurate descriptions I’ve seen in the descriptions - everything is there as described and well integrated. The body really is tastySweet with a faint hint of hops.

Dark clear ruby, bright and clear (sp?) aroma. Abrasively intense and assertively impressive. Extra sweet and concentrated, liquor notes, herbal with oak. wavers1 (916) - Notown, California, USA - JUN 10, 2010
bottle courtesy of tyto, thanks! wow! this stuff is amazing. pours beautiful with a nice head. the aroma is nice and sweet, slightly hot. the taste is super nice, and the finish is just incredible. this stuff is so smooth i down half a bottle like an amber ale before i realized it was 15%! very well hidden alcohol, super smooth. tasty and dangerous stuff! ditmier (1508) - Boise, Idaho, USA - MAR 13, 2010
2008 Bottle I think - Pours a hazy ruddy amber with a small off white head...aroma is massive, caramel, toffee, plum, dark malt...very thick and almost chewy even in the aroma...flavour is to be expected, very sweet brown sugar, old fruit, vanilla, some light hops and burnt sugar bitterness...abv is well hidden considering its level, this is a big beer... cgarvieuk (25292) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JAN 17, 2010

From notes. 2008 bottle. Amber. Off white carbonation. Rich toffee like malt, dense dark fruits, sugary sweetness, toast, alcohol warmth. Full body, smooth, viscous, rich. Awesome barley wine, need to get a couple to age.
