Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark reddish brown pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of lots of dark fruit, hints of oak, red fruits, slight grass, hints of bitter notes, hints of molasses. Taste is a mix of red fruits, hints of sherry, caramel, chocolate, more raisin, hints of toffee, lots of burnt caramel. Finishing fairly sweet, slightly bitter. 12oz bottle, shared by alexsdad06. Hazy amber - brown color. Thin off-white head. Dots of lace. Big caramel and raisin in the nose, light sherry. Bigger body. Nice smoooth, more creamy texture. Lighter carbonation. Surprisingly easy to drink for 15%. Just a light warmth in the finish. I’ve had 12% beers that tasted much boozier. Nice moderate bitter taste, light sweet. Some bigger earthy hop, light graininess. Caramel. Very good barleywine. douglas88 (9628) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 4, 2008
Bottle shared by Eric. Pours a murky dark brown with a small head. The aroma is full and nice; a smooth sweetness and a bunch of fruit. The taste is also full of fruit and some sweet candy. There is a really strong alcohol aspect, almost overpowering. It burns like a much stronger alcohol and dominates the taste. Overall, quite good and very strong. 3fourths (9358) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - SEP 11, 2007
12oz bottle, vintage unknownDJMonarch (9179) - Northwich, Cheshire, ENGLAND - AUG 23, 2009
Dark burgundy colored body, murky, with a slightly dark and dusty tan colored head – fine bubbled. Rich, inviting nose of rip plums and oak wood, some old, slightly oxidized caramel malt, some black cherries and cedar wood, with little bit of honey and orange as well. Rich, smooth and frothy palate, with rich dark plum, French oak, and some spicy dark plum and date yeast notes. Overall a really nice old ale, one of the more flavorful ones I’ve had, though the little amount of oxidation keeps this just below amazing.

Fruity aroma. Bronze mid brown coloured and very strong in alcohol with a crisp bitter and slightly dry full malt finish.

Waxed bottle to sniffer (2008 vintage; shared by alexsdad06). Looks good; a cloudy brown with light beige lacing. Smells solid; sweet and malty with notes of dark fruit, caramel, and a touch of butter. Tastes like it smells, sans the butter, with a nice, smooth mouthfeel (especially for 15%!). Good beer. 2004 vintage courtesy of footbalm. Bomber pours clear copper with thin head. The aroma is rich creamy and yummy. I get creamy candy caramel, some dark fruity esters, some alcohol and a bit of vanilla. Amazing and interesting. The taste is the same as the aroma with chewy sticky maltiness, a bit of pine flavor non hop bitterness, caramel goodness and a nice warming sensation. This brew has aged greacefully. Wonderful. nimbleprop (8750) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - APR 22, 2009
12oz bottle scored via trade. Pours a transparent, orange, copper amber with almost no head. Had legs like a glass of scotch. Aroma is raisins, chocolate, booze, grapes, salt water taffy, a bit of leather. Flavor is grapefruit, soap, booze, raisins, slightly woody, dark fruits, toffee. Finish is a little hot in the throat, very light carbonation, and not as much heat from the alcohol as you’d imagine for something 15%. Definitely a sipper. jredmond (8644) - New York, New York, USA - JUN 11, 2013
Sampled at Clockwork’s 4K/5K/10K gathering 2013. Bottle pours a deep brow body with thin lacing. Aroma is brownie, booze, caramel and molasses. the dark horse rides again, abit skew after this big brew .. caramel and sweetness .. pours a dark golden copper ... some heat, low for this octane .. very tasty, shit, would age well...
