3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, Winter 2012 bottling. Pours cloudy almost opaque dark reddish brown color with a small light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big caramel, raisin, dark bread, brown sugar, toffee, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove, earth, roasted malt, chocolate, and light herbal. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and spice notes. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, molasses, raisin, dark bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, roasted malt, chocolate, toast, prune, earth, and light herbal spiciness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, dark fruit, dark bread, brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, roasted malt, chocolate, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of robust flavors; with a nice malt backbone over the spices; and almost zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice winter warmer style. Very nice robust and balanced flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.
Aus der Flasche 2016-12 getrunken. Dieses mit u.a. mit Muskat, Nelken und Piment gebrauhte Winterbier schmeckt und duftet wie flüssige Dominosteine. Dazu ist es super süffig! Geiles Zeug! bwy (87) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 18, 2017
For such a high alcohol content the weight is surprisingly light.

Color is deep, opaque red-brown, nearly black in the thick spots. No head or lace, really.
Aroma is cola and cocoa. CInnamon and spices. Gets more "burnt" as it warms up a bit. Even a little musty, but that might be age. (It’s mid-March and I’m drinking an elf-themed beer.)
The flavor is more cola, cinnamon, sugary caramel, molasses. Some ashtray.
The feelis thick and chewy, but very smooth. This is a very pleasant beer, and at 8.75% it don’t treat you gentle. Iznogud (3801) - CROATIA - MAR 8, 2017

@ Budapest, Csakajosor. // Big spices on the nose but glad they don’t over power the taste. Cinnamon, and general spices with some light roastiness. Solid brew. Lore (2746) - Budapest, HUNGARY - FEB 12, 2017
brownish ruby colour, medium sized dense beige head; aroma of christmas spices like nutmeg, clove, maybe some cinnamon, too, some cocoa and herbal notes; taste is the same with syrupy sweetness and some sourish-dried fruity notes; good beer LLaurin (482) - Motala, SWEDEN - FEB 4, 2017
Really nice colour dark reddish brown with foamy head in beige. Nose is sweet with spicy herbal notes. Taste rich malty and sweet. Agreeable overall. monk191 (1978) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 22, 2017
An ok winter warmer. Pours a nice deep reddish black with a tan head. Smells great, cinnamon, ginger, dark fruit. Taste is very malty, with some cinnamon and ginger and a bit of marshmallow in the finish. Had on tap at the brewery.

35 cl bottle. Colour is black with a small off-white head. Aroma has that typical DH "base" of chocolate and dark malt, but with Christmas spices, cardamom and cloying sweetness at the forefront. Taste follows the same, but with a stronger presence from the chocolate with spices and sweetness. Quite full-bodied and low-carbonated. Not generally a big fan of spiced ales. Good stuff.
