Draft at Dark Horse taproom on 8/21/13. Pours a cloudy brown with an off white head. Mild roasty aroma. Flavor is sweet caramel with dark fruit. Palate was a solid medium. Tasty, but maybe a bit sweet for me. The second half of the pint was a bit forced on my part. I was thinking this was a new beer, but based on the 2007 ratings it was just revived. Definitely the same one as the bartender was mentioned the Elderberries to me. patrick767 (4063) - fort wayne, Indiana, USA - APR 10, 2007
tap at the brewpub - Pours a medium brown color and has a mild caramel malt aroma. The flavor has some moderate hops, caramel and/or chocolate malts, and light fruit notes. This ale is bubbly on the palate and medium bodied. Pretty good. ryan (3186) - Beltsville, Maryland, USA - APR 7, 2007
UPDATED: APR 13, 2007 Draft at Dark Horse as well as a growler. Brown body with reddish tint and a light tan head. The aroma is caramel, berry and a touch of tartness. The flavor is lightly sweet, mildly tart with cranberry, caramel, grapes and cherry. Medium body with soft carbonation. Nice, refreshing. brewblackhole (1588) - Muskego, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 5, 2007
on Tap at Dark Horse, big fruit and malt aroma, at first hard to detect the fruit, but a raspberry aroma becomes evident, color is actually amazing, best described as a purpleish brown ,fruit taste is immediately evident ,and then a definite chocolate sensation hits you, with a pleasing bitterness at the end, everyone at our table liked it badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAR 1, 2007

MI BG Winter fest. Pour hazy brown color with slight tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate. Flavor is again roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, some nut, lightly acidic. Palate is medium bodied, medium carboantion, semi-sweet finish. Solid, just not great. Silphium (3199) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - FEB 25, 2007
Sampled at the 2nd annual Michigan Winter Beer Festival, Lansing. Murky orange-brown body, thin buff head. Reminded me a lot of their Boffo Brown Ale, which was also featured at the fest. Bitter, roasty body with chocolate and toast, a touch nutty, with light tannins imparted by elderberries. This was a packed booth all day, as their stouts are really starting to gain much deserved accolades.
