Rated 3/20/13. 12 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip. A: Pours a black color; the pour itself looks quite dark and viscous. The head is a one finger light tan shade. It fades relatively quickly, leaving only minute lacing on the glass. S: I definitely get a decent amount of oats on the nose, backed by a ton of roasted barley. Hints of chocolate, vanilla, and licorice are also present. Good, if muted. T: Theres a mild smoked quality to the opening flavors that I find intriguing. Afterwards, it develops a dominant note of licorice with tones of coffee and vanilla on the finish. Moderately enjoyable, but the flavors could use more singular distinctness; they all seem to blend together. M: This one is surprisingly heavy on the palate, backed by a good silky smoothness and tons of lingering flavor. If someone called this an imperial stout, I wouldnt think twice either way. Despite the score, I really love the texture here - but the problem is, it doesnt match up with the mellow flavors particularly well, so I cant give a great score here. O: Nothing amazing, but its a solid offering. It kind of reminds me of a mediocre imperial stout, and thats actually a compliment in this case.

Bottle shared thanks to sjogro. Black with brown head that doesnt last very long and leaves a thick film. Quite some roasted notes with ash, coffee, dark chocolate and burnt caramel. Also some vanilla cookies, marzipan, light sweet red berries. Taste is over medium sweet balanced with quite some roasted bitterness. Over medium bodied with creamy feel.

Piana po nalaniu przyjmuje kształt bardzo ładnej, beżowej koronki, samo piwo ciemne, wręcz nieprzejrzyste. Przyjemny aromat kawy oraz paloności. W smaku podobnie z dodatkową czekoladową słodyczą. Wysycenie średnie w kierunku niskiego, dla mnie w punkt. Niezwykle pijalne, b. dobre piwo.

0.33 bottle.
Black color with a small, brownish head of good retention. A rich aroma of dark malts, dark chocolate, forest fruits, wood, some caramel, and a bit of oats. Taste is obviously malty, sweet, chocolaty, woody - not as rich as the aroma but still good. A full body, a thick texture, and an almost flat carbonation. Finish is medium long and less sweet, some molasses appears whereas most of the initial complexity vanishes. Overall the beer is good but it seems to diminish as one progresses with the tasting.
