Its big and full bodied with lots of roasted malts and balanced with heavy hops to put this imperial in a league of its own.
Previously known as Dark Horse Imperial Stout.

Half of a bottle that the owner of a local store got on his last visit to Marshall and very graciously split with me. There were only 7 left, they gave him this one, and the other 6 are going to GABF as part of Dark Horses first entry to GABF. Pours increadibly calm and dark oozing from the neck like oil and sits black with no activity. Aroma is all roasted malts, chocolate, and some coffee hiding the alcohol completely from the nose. Granted, this bottle is a couple years old since they havent brewed this in awhile so the advertised large wave of hops was not present in the aroma, or in the nose but it still has something going for it in its nice presentation of malts and dark fruits in the flavor. Sweet chocolate and roasted malt mixing with some raisin and a hint of some vanilla round out a beer that seems to have stood up pretty well. Other than the fact that there are no hop flavors or aroma I would say that the age has not added any off flavors. I understand that they are going to begin brewing this again this fall so I very much look forward to having this fresh.

Vanilla and lots of licorice here in the nose and taste. A bit of bourbon lingers and adds to the taste as this stays in the mouth. Alcohol hidden very nicely. Dark with tan head. Lots of roasted and toasted notes. Straight-forward, did not pick up any interesting things like fruit.

Mleczna kawa. Czekolada. Dobrze ukryty alkohol. Przyjemne. Niczego jednak nie urywa.

UPDATED: APR 21, 2017 Bottle (12oz). Black with nearly no head. Roasty aroma. Taste of chocholate first then some coffee bitterness. Light carbonation. Full body. Some smokiness too. Nice.

Aroma is chocolate/dark chocolate, dark malts, coffee and a hint of dry earthiness. The flavor is chocolate/dark chocolate, coffee, dark malts, mild dark fruit/fruit and a mix of big acidity and slight spiciness/alcohol in the finish.

Tap at Mellow. Pours a murky, dark brown with a small head that dissipates quickly. Yeasty aromas. Cacao nib and faint coffee aromas. Boozy on the palate, roasty bitterness. Very gritty on the palate, like a French press almost. Something doesnt feel right, as this is usually a classic. Will try again if i see it.

This stout is exactly the way I like it. Full bodied, smooth and loaded with roasted malts and hops. The balance in this beer is incredible. Every flavor has its place without surpressing others. I also like the subtlety of this beer. Excellent!
