Fairly smooth and quite creamy but with a bit too much booze. Plenty of chocolate TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - MAY 18, 2013
Draft on tap at Local Option (Chicago, IL). Didn’t realize this was a new tick until I saw Derek put it in. Pours a big thick viscous black pour, dark and ominous, healthy legs on the swirl and a firm brownish head atop, sticks around and laces well. Aromas show gentle oak, spirit. Big black malt, roast, and cocoa. Touches of anise, vanilla, and roasty coffee. Sticky thicker caramel malts, black malts, and toffee. Mellow barrel presence, surprised that the Woodford doesn’t preach that usual big toasty coconut presence. Initial is thicker and full on the palate, good toffee, toast, and sweet black malts. Cocoa, some fudge, gentle anise. Coffee, mellow to faint barrel presence. Roasty, anise and dark fruit as we move into the middle. Thicker and full girthy sweet malt presence, toasty and black, coffee and cocoa. Mellow oak, touch of vanilla. That anise and dark fruit always sticks with me. Backend and finish shows some heat, roast, and coffee. Slight wet oak, toasty malts and sweet thicker dark maltiness. This beer and it’s current condition seem under barreled, the Woodford (always an assertive barrel treatment) was just not there for me. A nice big brooding Imperial Stout that didn’t quite offer the barrel element I was expecting. Good not great. deyholla (12582) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAY 18, 2013
On tap at Local Option. Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice bourbon and roasted malt combo with a hint of bitter chocolate underlying. Flavor starts with bitter chocolate and roasted malts and has a nice warming bourbon notes. mabband (66) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - OCT 29, 2012
Flot sort men for lidt skum. Smag af chokolade. God cremet fylde. Kan mærke alkoholen.

Pours black with thin quickly disappating head, darkest brown I’ve seen in a while. Looks potent. Aroma is... WHISKY, sour barrel, the usual expected aromas of chocolate and coffee are buried deeply within the massive bourbon character. Taste is virtually the same as it smells, fairly acidic. Body is medium/full but seemingly fairly light bodied probably due to the very high abv, almost flat, oily mouthfeel, long bittersweet sour whisky finish. Overall, ok but def needs more time to mellow out.

my reaction was to plead for a case (unfortunately to no avail). reminds me of my first taste of goose island’s bourbon county stout (which i did then get a case of). Theis (15150) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAR 24, 2012
Draught at Local Option. Pitch black - brown head. Oiley. High malty. Vanilla. Oakey. Tarmac. Wooden. Light whiskey. Bourbon notes. Hard roasted malts. Full bodied. crossovert (14128) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 20, 2011
This one is big and bourbony. There is some added vanilla to the nose and some alcohol and dark fruit in the taste. Big and bold, perhaps too much. pantanap (3367) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 1, 2011
8oz pour at local option... Pours a deeper shade of black with a thin flimsy medium tan head... Aroma of assertive bourbon with softer vanilla and coconut undertones... Huge hot and boozy with full-on bourbon notes, lighter coconut. Difficult to look past or get beyond. Thick full and syrupy mouthfeel. AstrIngent somewhat harsh finish which leaves a semi-warming sensation. Tough to get down. chibuck (3521) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 30, 2011
UPDATED: OCT 1, 2011 Draft... Dark brown fringes but a glassy black body, no head at all... Super sweet nose, typical woodford backbone, sweet bourbon, a little coconut, too sweet and not enough balance, the back is a bit of brownie with bo though...tastes way too hot, way too much woodford, too sweet but no reward, so disappointing compared to the ba plead
