   AROMA 1/10   APPEARANCE 1/5   TASTE 1/10   PALATE 1/5   OVERALL 1/20
HonusWagner (2250) - Florida, USA - APR 15, 2013
Newest winner of the prize "worst beer I have ever tasted". Aroma is rotten vegetables, bourbon, and more acetone than the local MAC shop. Eye-watering, stomach-churning. Taste is even worse, sour vegetables, sickeningly sweet toffee, boozy bourbon. All of this carried on a body like Dimetapp, pure syrup, no carbonation. Disgraceful beer, the fact that this was bottled and sold is a fucking horrible sign for the QC at Dark Horse. This is the kind of money grabbing bullshit that should be reserved for the AB-Inbevs of the world.

Bottle: The aroma consists of heavy toffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, chocolate, and a very faint hint of vinegar. It pours a dark orangish-brown with a hint of transparency and almost no head with the exception of a few stray bubbles. The flavor starts with moderate toffee, caramel, brown sugar, and molasses. The finish has light maple syrup, faint vinegar, and barely a hint of tart lemon. It’s medium-full bodied with minimal carbonation and a somewhat sticky mouthfeel. Overall, the sourness is minimal...and that’s probably a good thing.

Bottle: Thanks, Tim. Most vigorous pour ever, only seven small bubble produced & gone in a few seconds. Aroma doesn’t smell sour, really. Big notes of super sweet molasses, sticky toffee, mild anise, liquid caramel, raisins, prunes, molasses, toasted brown sugar, perhaps just a small hint of tart red apple buried underneath. Flavor is a little more sour... Some slightly tart notes of apple, currant, & light vinegar. Still not nearly as awful as I expected. Lots of toffee, raisins, brown sugar, caramel, & hints of cocoa. Mild acetone character in the back, but still, this isn’t nearly as awful or sour as I was expecting. It’s actually pretty serviceable. A touch of alcohol heat.

Bottle shared by someone on Jackie-O’s bottle release eve. Pours a clear reddish-brown with no head. Notes of bourbon, old berry and pit fruits, earth, cardboard, dust, and some balsamic. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sour, sweet mouthfeel. It’s funny how groupthink works. A lot of people around us loved this, but Chris and previous RB raters hated it. I’m somewhere in between, saying ’meh.’ It’s not a very good sour overall, but it’s worth a try. I’d rather still try the regular 3 Guy, though. Dark Horse’s sours are more suspect than the malty stuff.

Taste from a waxed 12.7oz bottle. Clear brown color. Virtually no head. Kind of a reddish hue. Kind of worried by the nose. A lot of bourbon, dark fruit, some oxidization-type flavors. Not as much heat in the taste as in the nose, thankfully. Drinks like 10-11%. Moderate to bigger sweet taste, mild sourness, light heat in the ned. Bigger body. Light carbonation. Kind of slick. Interesting, kind of weird stuff. Everyone around me seems to be loving it, but I think it’s kind of sweet with a bit of a heat on it. Fun to try 2oz of, more would have sucked.

ICEatALAMO (1357) - Troy, Michigan, USA - SEP 15, 2014
Bottle. The pour is a reddish brown color with no head. The aroma has a nice barleywine and barrel aged aroma to it. The taste has no carbonation at all. The taste has the elements to a good beer, but doesn't all come together. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle... Hazy brown pour with no head. The bouquet is a tangy, vinous marriag of dried plum and tawny port. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeeel and restrained carbonation. Mirroring the nose, the flavor is super vinous and tangy with loads of dried plum and tawny port. Lightly tart, mildly pungent, prune finish. bottle courtesy of ctipping!

Reddish brown colored beer. Not much head at all. Dark fruits, berries, sourness is a tad muted. Muddled and really not so good.

boFNjackson (4230) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 12, 2013
Bottle... Poured deep brown with a hint of amber/head with no head. A bit flat. Nose had vinous oak, dark cherries, vinegar, and chard grains. Similar notes came through in the flavor. Some acidity and mild tartness. Toasted grains and dark cherry flavors were prominent. Some oxidized notes, but that worked ok here. I actually enjoyed this along with my couple buddies I shared it with. I was expecting a total drain pour but instead this wasn’t too bad to sip on.

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this. Bottle 316 from batch 1826. Deep red with a tan head. The aroma has some oak, molasses and dark fruit notes. The flavor is similar with a lot of oak, maple and vanilla, as well as some alcohol and molasses. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle #841 of 1440, batch#1826 purchased at DH general store the weekend after the Winter Warmer release party. Pours a very dark reddish brown. Big bourbon aroma. No head as expected. Sweet flavor of cherries and other dark fruits. Maybe a little chocolate to add to the smoothness. I’m not a sour fan and wasn’t really expecting to love this, but I didn’t pick up any sourness. Mine was sweet, big, and rich. Must be some story behind this. My bottle was fantastic, but the reviews are all over the board. Assuming that there wasn’t great consistency. Some of those who rated this low definitely didn’t drink the same thing that I did.
