Pouring at the Saturday sessions of EBF. Pours a lightly hazy ruby brown amber with a thin white head. Huge juicy hops and big malt. Smooth, medium to thick body, lots of malt. Huge. Sampled from the tap at EBF. Poured hazy orange amber with a tan head that lasted throughout the beer and laced slightly. Aroma had a nice combination of grapefruit, lighter citrus and pine that was met by a strong sweet malt backing. On tap at Sean’s 30th Birthday. Awesome. Pours a nice dark brownish pour, glowing copper orange edges glow, a good well haze pour with a decent sized tannish head that dies to a small film. Aromas are a juicy citrus and tropical fruit melange, fruity and sweet toffee, caramel. Grass, florals, toast, a lot of tropical fruit and grapefruit. Initial is medium bodied, maybe a bit sweet, with tropical fruit, pale malts, some sweeter toffee and caramel. Toast meets decent citrus, florals, and grass. Sweeter, with a good blast of fruity and citrus hops. Big beer, more along the line of juicy fruity hop beer, not overwhelmingly bitter, with a sweeter malt core that sticks it’s head in. Interesting, sweeter. Still has a big fruit influence, but doesn’t balance, instead almost getting sweet and too fruity. Still, an interesting beer. Thorpe429 (5122) - , Illinois, USA - MAY 31, 2011

Pours an amber-brown color with a thin white head and some spots as it goes down. The nose explodes with strong citrus and pine aroma. Good amount of grapefruit and citrus rind as well as a lot of resin. Definitely a bit of sweet malt in the background as well. The flavor is quite bitter and pungent, though it doesn’t seem too far over the edge because there is quite a bit of sweetness there as well. Mouthfeel falls victim to this, as the bitterness and sweetness don’t quite meld, though the former still comes out on top. Along with that, there’s some booze in there, but not nearly as much as there could be considering the alcohol content. Glad I got to try this, but a few ounces was more than enough.

Dark horse super juice... Pours a deeper amber hue with a fluffy very light beige head... Aroma is syrupy cough syrup meshing with a assertive bitter pine and dark fruit profile... Sweeter syrupy profile with a lot lighter hop influence than I would have expected. Light carbonation with an earthy sweet syrupy, a touch medicinal cloying profile. Medium bodied and not too heavy.

Deep reddish clear pour beige head and lots of sticky lacing ... aroma is sugary and chewy caramel malts with a resiny citrusy hop as well .... taste is very sweet sugar and chewy caramel malts with a hoppy citrusy resiny bite and a long sweet caramel malt finish with a slight bitter hop .... tastes like an imperial red ale but the sugar to hide the 16% abv hurts all the flavors .... a sipper pretty thick bodied brew .... awesome reddish color Silphium (3224) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - DEC 13, 2010
Draft, 2010 4 Elf Release Party. Described as a "quad IPA." Murky medium orange-brown body, thin cream head. Potent nose of catty, herbal, medicinal hops backed by sugary malts. The body was very sweet, a medley of skunky, catty, slick, oily hops and sugary malts, the alcohol not especially prominent. UPDATED: JUN 1, 2011 Great hop aroma loaded with dank pine resin, but you can smell the sweetness and the booze and it’s certainly extremely present when you tip the glass back. Almost meadlike sweetness of honey. Still, much much better than 120 minute.
