UPDATED: OCT 7, 2013 Sampled on draft at the Headkeeper this beer poured a dark red-brown color with a medium sized foamy white head that lingered and left minimal lacing. The aroma was vague spices, malty and faintly fruity. The flavor was faint pepper and basil followed by peach, apricot and had a tangy malty middle. Medium length malty finish of basil and peach. Draft. Poured a hazy dark orange copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate sweet fruit and heavy basil aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium herbal sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Good beer.

Draft at Dutch’s. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have an abundance of basil and other general spice character, little if any peach, some bitterness to the finish, mild sweetness to the malts, kind of loses flavor at the finish. UPDATED: OCT 2, 2013 On tap. I’m skeptical that this is really a "pale ale". Hazy amber brown color. Little off-white head. Not much lace. Bigger body, lighter crisp carbonation. Lightly dry finish. A lot of herbal basil in this, sort of minty. Not as much peach as I hoped, and much darker than I hoped. Some dark fruit notes, more than peach. Very spicy, herbal and basily, makes for kind of a more bitter taste overall. Interesting basil ale to sip on slowly. Much more enjoyable from a snifter (I started with a pint). Long minty, basily aftertaste. The more I sip on it, the more I’m attracted to it. The initial shock wears off, and I accept that this is not a pale ale, but more of an herbal ale, really. On tap at Monk’s in Sioux Falls. Pours hazy reddish amber with small white head. Aromas of peach and basil with light citrus and caramel malt. Basil really dominates aroma but in a good way. Flavors of basil, some bitter hops, light peach, bit of bready malts, and light caramel. Dominated by strong herbal basil note and hop bitterness. Could almost use less hops and a bit more caramel sweetness to bring out peaches. Aroma was much nicer than flavor. Body is lacking carbonation. Draft at Darkhorse. Poured reddish orange with thin foam. Spicy fruit basil aroma. Lightly carbonated but smooth with light peach heavy herb taste. Different but interestingly good.
