Aroma: Espresso notes, raisins, dark cacao. Appearance: Almost oily black with a foamy tan head that settles into a skin. Flavor: Roast-centric, not a whole lot of chocolate; some citrusy notes buried underneath (something akin to Centennial); espresso finish. Palate: Full bodied, creamy texture, flat carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: A satisfying enough porter; fairly pleasing on all levels.

Poured from a bottle. A very good abv content. Creamy, tangy, coffee aroma that continues to the tongue. Great dark brown color.

very hoppy, has no porter sweetness. not very easy to drink. Just to try and forget...

I expected Dark Horse to make a fine porter and they didn’t disappoint. Label has a very thirsty trout indeed on it - it’s a skeleton. Aroma is sweet, funky, and complex. The taste is equally impressive, smoky and spicy, but well balanced too. Really good.

Strong malty aroma maybe a hint of licorice, pitch black body no head, rich and smooth with raisins, chocolate and licorice no hint of alcohol. better than i was expecting!

crazyvin (2026) - New York, USA - FEB 1, 2015
A medium brown body with a light brown head. Aroma was a nice mix of roasted malts that had a bit of smokiness to it. Semi-sweet chocolate and a touch of molasses. Flavor was well balanced. Roasted malts always pair well with chocolate malts. Chocolate malts seemed a bit retrained giving the roasted qualities a chance to shine. Slightly dry finish. Carbonation seemed a bit elevated, but not enough to hur the beer.

12 oz bottle. From saveur-biere.com.
Dark reddish brown colour with a tiny light tan ring. Roasted malt, liquorice, cough drops, molasses and mild sweetness in the aroma. The flavour is roasted malt, sweetness, chocolate, molasses and some liqouorice. Not bad. A bit thin.

12 ounce bottle from Bruisin Ales. Glad to FINALLY try this. Pours dark brown with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of chocolate, nutty notes, mild roast. The taste is roasted malt, chocolate, nutty notes, green hops. mild dark fruits. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness.
