A Best Bitter brewed in a traditional Sussex style using Maris Otter, Crystal and Chocolate malts with East Kent Golding hops. Typical of Dark Star ales, the Best Bitter relies on the heavy handed addition of aromatic hops late in the boil.

Cask Pint at Wibbas Down (JDW), Wimbledon, London in Sept 2012 - Amber Brown in colour. Malty; toasty malts, caramel. Fruity; mild citrus. Hoppy; slightly earthy hops. Mildly bittersweet malty throughout with a dryish bitter finish. OK. Easy drinking.

One of my favourite brewers and a beer named after my favourite TV character. What could go wrong? Well, there’s nothing wrong, but Dark Star do better. Nice hop character but a bit flat and lacking something. Fine session beer but nothing to write home about.

Slightly hazy amber. Biscuity amber malt character. Mellow hop - the least hoppy Dark Star I’ve had probably. Good character w subtle earthiness. Might benefit from a more expressive yeast but it’s a nice beer.
