COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
A Best Bitter brewed in a traditional Sussex style using Maris Otter, Crystal and Chocolate malts with East Kent Golding hops. Typical of Dark Star ales, the Best Bitter relies on the heavy handed addition of aromatic hops late in the boil.

My Bottom Line:
This cushy ESB’s floral hops envelop light crème brûlée allusions, as delicate apricots are greeted by bitter resins and a biscuit-y undertow.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the glistening bronze.
-If you think a Bitter cannot be complex, please try this one. You might reconsider.
-The mouthfeel is suuuuper silky.
-Malts are also a tad caramel-like.
-Another engaging brew from Dark Star!

On cask at Craft Beer Co. Clerkenwell.

Cask, Gilded Lily Carlisle. A good brown British beer! More malty than hoppy, but well bodied, full flavoured for 4% & a nice finish with just the faintest hint of chocolate and smoke.

Cask in the Kings Head. Colour is rich brown, clear with a white fluffy foam head. Nose is malty, chocolatey, nutty, toffee, slight herbal hop. Taste is a brown bitter with brown sugar, chocolate, caramel, English hops, ale fruit. Style is standard but it’s a good beer.

Cask @ St. Urho’s Pub
Aroma is quite light with cocoa and nuts. Flavour is a bit odd with berries, toffee, hints of mint and nuts. Also some caramel character exists. Palate is a bit light. Decent.

Cask @ St. Urho’s Pub

Pours clear golden with a small head. Aroma of crisp grassy notes, hints of malts and bread. Taste is malty, slightly bready and grassy. Finish is sweetish and slightly bitter. Okay, quite generic bitter.
