UPDATED: APR 27, 2004 (Draught) At Maxfields in Potsdam. Pours a beige, creamy head and an opaque body. Nose is cocoa and a mild skim milk. Fairly chocolaty yet TOO THIN. Above average.(Rated 3.2). What a difference drinking at the brewery makes. I only had this beer on draught a month ago in Potsdam and this drinking experience at the brewery was totally different. Medium, lasting brown head nad an opaque body. Bitter chocolate nose. Thin, very creamy and bitter chocolate. Lasting bitterness on the back of the palate. Tad oily. Very good (Rating 3.9) apoptosis (1317) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 28, 2004
This one looks like an appetizing stout, with a dark brown body, and a fluffy white head. Great semi-sweet chocolate aroma, with hints of vanilla. Chewy mouthfeel, and a little bit of sweetness in the flavor is a great tease. Very creamy. notalush (5878) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 28, 2004
An above average oatmeal stout - opaque, but nearly no head - decent tan lacing, though - roasted oat aroma with a touch of hops - medium bodied with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel - flavor is dominated by dark roast coffee, starts sweet and then gets some espresso bitterness (as others have noted) - hints of dark fruit - long finish - nice. Pours with a dark brown to black body topped by a medium thick to thick tan head that leaves lots of lace. Slightly sweet yet bitter malt aroma with a touch of hoppiness and smokiness. Smokey roasted malt flavor with a slight coffee character. Full bodied, relatively smooth with a touch of dryness. muzzlehatch (4959) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 2, 2003
Excellently balanced, sweet-at the start, bitter-at-the finish oaty stout; some nice wine qualities and hints of raisin, and a smoothness and luscious mouthfeel that continues even into the harder-than-expected finish. Well above average.
