on tap-pours a creamy tan head with copper color. Aroma is coffee, chocolate malt. Taste is coffee, chocolate malt. Middle is medium body & fizzy. Finishes full body and coffee aftertaste.
Serves a medium tan, looking deceptively like an IPA. A sniff hints that something different is in store. It floats into the nose like a field of amber grains. This pleasantrye beer has an emphasis on the grain body, supported by an ampke dose of american bitter hops. Of the 4 in my sampler so far, this would be my choice for a session beer, handily outstripping the IPA. On tap at their brewpub in Glens Falls. gws57 (1276) - Saint Charles, Illinois, USA - AUG 9, 2005
Had this one on draught in Glens Falls, New York. Deep copper color and slightly cloudy with a thick, slowly dissipating head, nose of baked bread, slightly sour in the finish with notes of green apples and green grapes, smooth tasting but the sour threw me off. Seigle tout en douceur et bien balancé avec le houblon aromatique. Mousse crémeuse, robe ambrée pâle. Bien bonne! GonZoBeeR (3061) - ste-catherine, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 9, 2005

04.23.05 Nitro tap at TAP NY. This is a rye cream ale? On nitro? Huh. Golden amber with beige nitro head. Creamy body, very thick and nice, surprisingly. Lots of wet, malty graininess. Caramel. It takes a few sips and some temp before I really start to notice the rye. Sharp up front and weedy, makes it somewhat crisp despite the thicker body. Different. mkobes (2142) - paramus, New Jersey, USA - APR 25, 2005
On tap at Tap New York. Dark amber in color with a nice head. Malty and hoppy. Citrus hops. Caramel notes in the aroma. Well balanced beer. Smooth tasting. Creamy. Medium bodied. Clean tasting. Enjoyable. MartinT (9880) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 15, 2004
Quasi-absence of aroma and fluffy nitroed appearance...A little caramalt fruitiness underneath hanging out with citrusy hops under sheets of nitro air...The hops get grassy in the last half and save this quaffer, but interest is irrecoverable... tiggmtl (4545) - East York, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 12, 2004
Lightly roasty dark malt character in the aroma. Dark amber brown with large, lasting, off-white head (nitro). Caramel malts up front with roasty dark malts through the middle and a gentle balancing bitterness. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel and medium body. Clean and well-brewed - not a beergeek’s beer but likely to be well received. Served very cold. Sampled with MartinT and Rastacouere on tap at the brewpub.
