Penn Quarter Porter is our first in a line of draft-only limited-release beer, and it’s a robust porter! In the way that The Public is on the line between a pale ale and an IPA, this is on the line between a porter and a stout - with chocolate notes and a dry, roasted finish.

12 oz can in a trade, thanks Devin. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, and a nice roasty malt. Flavors are chocolate, coffee, light smoke, and a great roasty malt. Great beer. Really loving all the dc brau beers I’ve had so far.

Can from Craft Beer Cellar, Washington DC. Near black in colour, with a thin, beige, head. Plain chocolate, toasty malts, a bit thin in the mouth upfront, but more complexity came through in the dryish finish. Enjoyable.

6-pack in cans from Total Wine & More/Vienna, VA. Was hoping on more of a maltier version of the style. Some smokiness here. Super dark brown appearance with a mocha head. Texture is is ok...but could be creamier. Decent beer but kind of forgettable. This was actually my favorite so far out of the 5 or 6 samples from this brewery.

An ok beer on tap at Industry Robinson. Aroma was decent. Chocolate and roasted malt. A little light, but ok. Pour was a dark brown with a thin tan film for a head. Taste was good. I don’t see any mention of smoke in this beer but it had a distinctive smoky character with chocolate and just a hint of coffee in the finish. Mild carbonation.

Hope I didn't get this mixed up with Boulevard tough kitty, looks pretty close. Tap IPH. Not as dark as expected. Some cloying smell in this and it carries over to the first taste, such an influence. Yes, some sticky smoothness. The cloying sweetness, wants to take over but I ignore it. A little difficult for a sweet stout, needs some civility. Tolerable for a beer.

Can:
Just-almost-black with a small dark tan head.
Dark, smoky chocolate and coffee aroma.
Taste is rich, dark, chocolate malt, smoke and ash.
A nice, dry, ashy bittering.
Good body.....a solid, excellent porter.

Refrigerated 12 oz. aluminum can from shrubber85 poured into a glass. Black with small/mediumbeige head. Aroma is roasted malt, medium body, lower carbonation, and some small-bubble lacing. Taste is roasted malt and cocoa.

Can. Chocolate malt, ash, and dry orange peel aroma. Very dark brown with moderate brown head - nice lacing. Lightly sweet chocolate malt, and moderately bitter ash, hay, and orange peel flavor. Nice body. Very good.

Tap at Finn & Porter in the Embassy Suites Convention Center in D. C. Pours dark brown with a darkish tan head. Aroma of chocolate and not excessively toasty dark malt. Med + body. Flavor is very nice. Good chocolate and the malt is right where a porter should have it. This is what I like in the style, and do not frequently get. Good stuff.

22 oz. bottle from seeswo - thanks, Chris! 2012 vintage. Uh, thanks? Pours a deep, dark, opaque coffee brown with a finger of dark tan head that settles into a lighter tan ring and a wee bit of film. Looks great. Showing oxidation, along with chocolate, light roast, earth, tobacco, toasted sugars, and coffee. Light-medium bodied, albeit thinned over time, with a dry, roasty mouthfeel. A little oxidized on the palate, with a hint of umami. Not bad for the age, actually. But would obviously be better fresh.
