Bottle. Sweet, with hints of raisin, and touches of licorice Some slight roast in the finish helps it along a little bit, but it fades a bit towards the finish. A bit too sweet aswell. chriso (7536) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 9, 2005
Bottle at St Albans beer Festival, September 2005. Ruby/brown colour. Not very dark. Burnt malty aroma. Palate is fruity, sweet and a bit woody. Thin mouthfeel. Alright but I generally find these Belgian style stouts leave me underwhelmed. They’re just not smooth or rich enough for my taste.

Bottled - St Albans BF. Ablack beer with a good large off-white head. The aroma has some licquorice and a little roast. The taste is sweet with some butterscotch and a lactic character. The alcohol comes through also. Decent. SilkTork (5918) - Southampton, United Kingdom, Hampshire, ENGLAND - OCT 3, 2005
Bottle. O dear. Smells and tastes old, oxidised, musty. We had a couple of genuine old bottled beers, and they were more interesting and much tastier than this thing. The sweetness is not sufficiently relieved by any interesting balance. There is no depth. Just musty and sweet. harrisoni (19529) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - OCT 3, 2005
Bottle, St Albans Beer Festival 2005. Dark ruby colour with lasting dark beige head. Nice chocolate, dark treacle flavours.

Darkbrown coloured beer, white head, leaves a lace. Slightly roasted aroma, sweet. Sweet taste with notes of ’drop’, lingering bitterness. Just a bit thin on the palate but all in all very nice brew. Hildigöltur (5103) - København, DENMARK - JUN 30, 2004
Very dark reddish brown coloured. Notes of liquorice in the aroma and in the flavour. Malty. skortila (6001) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - FEB 18, 2004
Coffee-malty aroma with some sweetness and fruits. Black coloured with a nice lacing. Sweet and roasted malty taste with some coffee and fruits. More bitter in the end. Decent brew. caesar (7390) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - FEB 17, 2004
Cloudy black color, medium brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, some licorice and coffee. Taste is again roasted malty, some licorice, bitter. Quite full taste and palate. Nice brew. jbrus (4988) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - JAN 20, 2004
Licorice aroma. Red/black color, brown almost creamy head, very nice lace. Sweet, licorice, lightly hopped, hint of cola (what a pitty), hint of coffee in the end (could use some extra), medium to full body.
