Bottle at St Albans beer Festival, September 2005. Ruby/brown colour. Not very dark. Burnt malty aroma. Palate is fruity, sweet and a bit woody. Thin mouthfeel. Alright but I generally find these Belgian style stouts leave me underwhelmed. They’re just not smooth or rich enough for my taste.
Borresteijn (7172) - Zaandam, NETHERLANDS - JAN 25, 2009

Comments: An original, highly spicy, roasty and coherent dark ale that does not exaggerate neither sweetness nor acidity.
Bottle at Arendsnest. Dark, dark brown. Fruity aroma. Quite sweet, fruit and chocolate taste. Notes of licorice. Strong finish. Caramel. Toffee flavours. skortila (5875) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - FEB 18, 2004
Coffee-malty aroma with some sweetness and fruits. Black coloured with a nice lacing. Sweet and roasted malty taste with some coffee and fruits. More bitter in the end. Decent brew. SilkTork (5738) - Southampton, United Kingdom, Hampshire, ENGLAND - OCT 3, 2005
Bottle. O dear. Smells and tastes old, oxidised, musty. We had a couple of genuine old bottled beers, and they were more interesting and much tastier than this thing. The sweetness is not sufficiently relieved by any interesting balance. There is no depth. Just musty and sweet. Marko (5718) - Split / Zagreb, CROATIA - OCT 15, 2007

Poured a very dark red-black with a small to medium sized creamy, thick off-white head that went away slowly. The nose was nice; chicory, chocolate, coffee. The taste wasn’t far off. The same notes, chicory, cocoa and coffee, could be felt. Mild and somewhat sweet (more than it was bitter). A bit dry, with notes of herbal hops in the aftertaste. This was a very likable, drinkable, quality beer that fits in the Porter category more than it does in teh s/h/v category. All in all, way underrated.
Bottle. Sweet, with hints of raisin, and touches of licorice Some slight roast in the finish helps it along a little bit, but it fades a bit towards the finish. A bit too sweet aswell.
