Very dark reddish brown coloured. Notes of liquorice in the aroma and in the flavour. Malty. MarcoDL (5029) - NETHERLANDS - OCT 13, 2013
Weird beer. I found it hard to pinpoint what it tastes like, but I liked it. Good effort. jbrus (4990) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - JAN 20, 2004
Licorice aroma. Red/black color, brown almost creamy head, very nice lace. Sweet, licorice, lightly hopped, hint of cola (what a pitty), hint of coffee in the end (could use some extra), medium to full body. RichardGretton (4770) - Leicestershire, ENGLAND - JAN 24, 2010
Bottle. Black beer with a slightly reddish tinge and a very strong head. The aroma is bitter, roasted and slightly sweet chocolate, and the flavour is gently roasted and mildly bitter. Overall a nice roasted dark beer. sayravai (4710) - Helsinki, FINLAND - DEC 23, 2007
(Bottled) Very dark brown with a small, beige head (some yeast in the bottle). Sweetish and grainy dark toffee maltiness and dark fruit in the aroma. Roasted-malty, lightly vinous, fruity and grainy-malty flavor with chocolate, and some ashiness, but low bitterness in the finish. Yeast makes the flavor quite pleasant and smooth. Medium-bodied, somewhat foamy-carbonated palate. Very balanced and quite nice overall.

Bottle at 17th PINT winterbier festival, Gouda. Pours clear orange to brown. Aroma of licorice, alcohol and fruits. Flavor is quite watery, bittersweet andof licorice and spices. Quite ok, but not very interesting. ShivanDragon (4205) - Leeuwarden, NETHERLANDS - FEB 4, 2013

aroma: caramel, mout, kandij suiker, muf, hout, en nog een vreemde geur welke de totale aroma ervaring niet ten goede komt.
smaken: medium zoet, licht zuur, caramel mouten, zoethout, fruit, gerst.
lichte body. veel te hoog qua zuurgraad, vreemde smaken verder, niet lekker.
Caramel coloured pour, no head.
Sweet aroma with caramel, wine, raisins, some liquorice.
Unfortunately (almost) no carbonisation.
Watery flavour with caramel, hops, distant fruits and spices. rauchbier (3900) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - OCT 29, 2003
Bottle conditioned. Deep ruby red brown, good noisy off white head and moderate condition. Big malty barley wine nose that becomes fruity and has some spicy peppery hop notes. Raisins, roast barley and alcohol in the mouth. Sweet and malty in the finish with some obvious alcohol notes.

This is an amazing aroma, and I seldom give 10! The deep fresh liqurice with honey is great. But the disappointment after tasting is big, as the taste is nothing special. The finish is thin. Dark body, small thick beige head. Bottled at arendsnest, Amsterdam.
