Even though a seasonal, this christmas ale wins upon cellaring for one or two years. Drink it young, and it’s slightly boring and to the sweeter side, drink a year after it’s a good and somewhat complex bitter ale with hints of cinnamon, lemon and ginger. It’s supposed to accombany food, and goes well with traditional danish lunch like hering, pickled gherkins, apple-bacon and liver pate. Due to the slight oily feel, it gets too much on it’s own.
UPDATED: DEC 25, 2017 From bottle with family at Ganddal 25.12.17. Cloudy dark amber. Foamy off-white head. Aroma and taste of raw wort, sour raw malt and hay sjakkmatt (5) - NORWAY - DEC 25, 2017 does not count
Nice tast. Low skim. None aroma, but overall an enjoyable beer. Not very hoppy. More on the malt side. A Christmas beer? Depends on what you want a Christmas beer to be. Milter (1080) - Nyborg, DENMARK - NOV 10, 2017
Ordinær juleøl. Mere pilsner end juleøl, men dog ganske frisk og velsmagende. Casper0904 (568) - DENMARK - AUG 2, 2017
Very boring christmas beer. Rather drink mainstream christmas, than this. Nothing Royal prince in this one. nybol (2441) - DENMARK - MAR 12, 2016

... Tja, ikke noget at råbe hurra for. Kedelig øl. DraftDodger (1793) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - DEC 29, 2015
Copenhagen 29/12 2015. 50 cl bottle from SuperBrugsen. Pours clear light copper brown with big white head. Settles as thin layer of foam. Aroma is sweetish with caramel, wet cardboard and some medium bitter notes. But the most distinctive odeur is a overwhelming skunky smell. Low carbonation and watery palate. Taste is sweet caramel, burnt sugar and a lot of skunkiness. I have never been very impressed with the "5 gaarde". Their Christmas beer have done nothing to change that disposition. Light amber color with little white head. The aroma is a bit malty. But the hops bitterness is (sadly) not so perceptible.
Overall a bit too normal for the price for the 50 cl bottle. Cepos (14) - DENMARK - DEC 4, 2015
Ikke megen jul har- mere standard pilsner, som ikke tør meget. Noget konsum-agtigt

9 degrees C. Pours orange-brown with off white head with sufficient retention. Faint aroma dominated by caramel and roasted malt with a slight fruitiness. Taste very light again dominated by the malts with just a little fruitiness. Hardly any hops present and the malty aftertaste quickly disappears without a trace of bitterness. Thin texture and mouthfeel adds up to a completely uninteresting, but drinkable beer with very little in the way of Christmas spices or such.
