Tasting bij mij thuis. Soepele stout met lichte vleug barley zoetheid (of dat is de nasmaak van de vorige, kan ook). Maar lekker iig. Backlog from 2014/12/12.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours pitch black with a small tan head and an aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, some cherries, mandarin, roasted malts, toffee, dried plums or figs, peanuts and freshly baked bread. Taste is medium sweet and theres some hoppy bitterness in the end. A really nice stout!

Bottle @ home. Dark brown to black colour with a medium sized beige head that doesnt last very long. Smells roasty, red fruits, slightly sour. Tastes roasty, sourish, some chocolate, hint of mint. Medium body, soft carbo. Kinda weird, not bad but also not how I prefer my stouts to be.

Bottle at picked up at Deen supermarket, Landsmeer, consumed at Camping Het Riven, Landsmeer Nr Amsterdam, Netherlands, Monday 5th October 2015. Hazy charcoal/brown, sediment in suspension with a slim head. Coffee and chocolate in equal measures on aroma and in the mouth. This is a good stout. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4

Bottle from a Dutch supermarket, thanks to Craftmember. One of these virtuous beers with double names from this brewery. Thick, dense, pale yellowish beige head retaining very well, colour very dark reddish chestnut brown, blackish in overall appearance but transparent on the edges. Pleasant, typical stout aroma of bitter chocolate nibs, coffee grounds, burnt toast, beef stock, bayleaf, subtle hints of salmiac, wet leather, iron shavings (but feeling natural here), dried banana, vanilla and cigar ashes. Despite being characterized as a dry stout, it kicks off with a dense, almost candied, yet restrained sweetness, a bit liquorice-like, along with raisins, baked banana and candied dates, but drying as the liquid travels over the tongue, with a slick, oily, caramelly, nutty and deeply toasted malt body with soft carbonation, turning roasted in the end with a lovely, profoundly fondant chocolate-like bittersweetness further bittered with late but quite assertive, spicy, leafy hops in the end and a dash of warming, but non-disturbing alcohol. I love a good stout and this surely is one, makes me curious about the rest of this brewerys range.

Apparently thiis beer went through some evolution. According to this recent bottle I got from a Dutch supermarket called Deen, its got 7% abv, 51 ebu, a 121 ebc. It pours a beautiful black with a small tanned foamy moccahead, medium to soft carbonation. The roast malts and coffee hit your nose straight away in this still subtle aroma. Theres dark cacao, hops, some fruity hint ( like datk sweet citrus, tangerine of some sort...), toasted bread and nuts. The taste is of roasted malts, a lot of nice bitter coffee, bitter hops, again that very faint hint of something fruity I cant quite put my finger on, a slight cirtic-acid edge to the nice oily, bitter coffee aftertaste, a medium dry hop-feeling in the mouth, lovely bitter with cacao and hops, get even a bit of the bread in the aftertaste with a smithering of silt lining. Some sweetness is still in there too. Alliteration goes well with this one: Black, Bitter, Beautifully Brewed. Love this one.

Aroma:
Medium aroma of malts, caramel, bread, liquorice, chocolate and roasted malts.

Appearance:
Opaque dark brown/black beer with slight yeast and with a medium/large beige/brown head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel, liquorice and chocolate; ends slightly bitter and dry with bread and roasted malts.

Overall:
This beer is rather intense, complex and balanced. Both the aroma and flavour have slightly too much bread. Could have benefitted from more roasted malts, but is still very much enjoyable.

Geur erg zwak. Normale stout.
