Murky middling brown, thin sandy head. Nose is gritty dark berry, nice peatiness and smooth roast. Initial taste is plum and rich peaty. Busy enough carbonation and sticky mouthfeel. Finishes softly sweet, neat caramelised buzz and a soft rolling tobacco smokey linger.

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2016 One of the elaborations of Embrasse, the Dochter’s quadrupel style ale, this one having been aged in Ardbeg barrels. Deep reddish bronze, hazy colour under a dense, frothy, yellowish beige head. Aroma has chocolate, bayleaf, caramel, banana, candied dates, caramel, medlar, overripe pear and wood, but is totally dominated by a very strong iodine smell representing the peat - way too much for my taste, I have nothing against peated whisky, but I cannot say I enjoy the smell of iodine. Sweet, candied taste, dates, banana, candied orange, very soft, full and ’fluffy’ mouthfeel, honeyish and caramelly malts, some earthy hops in the finish, drying woody tannins, a glow of warming whisky-like alcohol, lingering malt sweetness and even candi sugar sweetness, but most of all, that peat - iodine aroma returning retronasally - and ruining it for me. Interesting and complex for sure, but way too much iodine for my taste, reminding me of a Laphroaig barrel aged imperial stout from Jopen, which had the same issue for me.
