jerohen (2224) - Bussum, - DEC 15, 2012
Bottled (66 cL) from Biernavigatie.nl. Bottle date August 2012, bottle nr. 8937. Label is from regular Embrasse, but additional sticker and card says Ardbeg Islay whisky-barrel. In contrast to current Ratebeer database it states 10% ABV. Very dark brown colored, medium lasting brown head, beautiful. Very powerful nose, Islay whisky, peat, iodine, smoke, medicinal even, is there actually beer in here? Smoked flavor, earthy, then lots of malts, together with iodine. Lasting finish, astringent, very earthy, bitter and liquorice. Extremely full-flavored, almost pure Islay whisky, which i like. But then again, that may also be the downside of this beer: why not just take an Ardbeg whisky if youre in the mood for something like this? Still, i like it a lot. But one piece of advice: share your bottle, a bottle this size is too much to finish yourself.

olio (9774) - Tampere, FINLAND - DEC 17, 2016
66 cl bottle. Bottled on 06/2014.
Pours dark red-brown color with a small head. Burnt malts and wood on the nose, peat is strongly present, earthy, spices. Flavor is sticky sweet caramel-y and toffee, some earthy spiciness. Weirdly this is slightly worse compare to Laphroaig version.

66 cl bottle (10%) @ olio, bottled 06/2014
Vertical with Laphroiag Appearance is significantly darker than Laphroiag. Aroma has sweet malty tones, strong peat, licorice and . A slight disappoitment, as a big Ardbeg fan Id expect even more. This is just too sweet and lacks the drinkability Laphroiag version has. Unusual, I dislike the Laphroiag due its sweetness but in this case it is vice versa.

650ml bottle. Bottled JUN 2014. Vertical with Laphroaig BA version. Pours dark brown, almost black with a smooth head. Aroma of berries, ripe fruits, hints of oak, wood, peat, whisky and leather. Taste is sweet, malty and slightly yeasty with some berries, toffee, ripe fruits, raisins, oak, wood, leather and peat. Finish is sweet, malty and earthy with loads of ripe fruits, berries, raisins, hints of yeast, leather, peat and wood. A lot more balanced and beer-like compared to the Laphroaig version.

Hopverdju (958) - BELGIUM - NOV 23, 2016
Botteld Juni 2014. Lichte koolzuurprikkel. Volmondig. Afdronk: geturfde whisky en as.

66cl bottle, bottled June 2014, taken by me (minutemat got it wrong below), at the 7th Nov 2016 Shrewsbury beer share meeting. Four of us split this between us. Haze in the dark brown body, lightly tanned head. Steaming Peat Bog and malts in the nose, taste not far off either. Different and interesting.

330ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, oct 16. Thanks to Mike, I think! Pours hazy dark ruby brown, small tan head. Aroma is peatbog and TCP. Taste presents lots of oaky peat, perhaps slightly overpowering even, with more TCP & earthy tobacco. Not really for me.

Bottle at Craigs. Pours dark brown with a thin white head. Aromas of whisky, light smoke. Taste is whisky, peat, woody. Whisky too strong on the finish.

McNeillR (2276) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - NOV 24, 2015
Murky middling brown, thin sandy head. Nose is gritty dark berry, nice peatiness and smooth roast. Initial taste is plum and rich peaty. Busy enough carbonation and sticky mouthfeel. Finishes softly sweet, neat caramelised buzz and a soft rolling tobacco smokey linger.
