COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wrapped bottle, striped red paper with sticker "Peated whiskey cask" on the lower right end of the "logo"
An 9% ABV beer in which the fermented sugars were all obtained from malt (20 degrees Plato). A generous dose of hops and a long maturation time makes this beer best of the best. This beer is bottle conditioned and will go through taste evolution during many years. Selected by the brewer from his best peated whisky casks. Matured for a quarter of a year. Winner of the Zythos Beer Festival (ZBF) consumer prize 2011. (Translation by Martinus)

A hazed reddish copper ale with a thick brown head. In aroma, smokey peated caramel malt with treacle, wood extract, dark fruits, interessing. In mouth, uber peated with iodine, woodm herbas, nice alcohol, whiskey-like.Tasted at GRMs tasting.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2013 660 ml bottle - aged for two years in perfect cellar conditions - pours murky brown with amber hints; creamy head - beige like a caffe latte. Aroma of roasted nuts, soy sauce, plums, coffee, a bit of peat but very nice and balanced, subtle. Medium body with just a tad too much sweetness that covers a bit too much the peated effect. Taste is going to a quad; bread, malt and a tad of peatiness. LIKE! ------ a fresh off the shelve 2013 version. Sampled at +15C. Delicious vanilla and cream aromas (vanilla pudding), sweet oak, and caramel and malts. Huge beer, seriously underestimated.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with tan brown head. Nose and taste is peat, barbecued pork, smoked oak, whiskey, dark caramel, dark chocolate and peated malt. Flavors meld well and are strong but not overpowering. There is a nice subtle quality to the beer. Solid beer. Medium body.

My Bottom Line:
Peat smoke is sagaciously integrated to this dessert brews pillowy, rich mouthfeel, giving life to subtle berries and raisins with the help of bready yeast and malts.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A gorgeous creamy layer of foam (even in a chalice) sticks to the darkest brown.
-Alcohol is well hidden throughout.
-Complexity may not be out of this world, but simple wealth, perfectly showcased in the softest of mouthfeels, will always get me.
-This is like a beautiful Quad with peat smoke. A dreamy blend.

Bottle.

Bomber shared a GRMs. Strong Islay smokiness, rich dark dried fruits, iodine, brine, treacle and molasses notes, quite pleasant. Medium body, somewhat relaxed effervescence. More strong Scotch smoke, brine, iodine, good rich malt support, pretty heavy stuff; sweet with fair bitterness and a long, smoky, inky, full fruity malt finish. Gorgeous.

Bottle from Belgiuminabox.Pours a dark brown with a minimal tan head.Aromas of peat and wood.In the taste peat and wood feature predominately with whisky there too. This is an interesting beer and i can see why it appeals to some and not others.Tasty and well worth trying.

(bottle - STLCOB end of year tasting) very dark brown with small tan head. The aroma is PEAT, some wood. Flavor is PEAT, smoke, wood, scotch whisky. Did I mention the PEAT. A bit off balanced for my taste.

Dark brown beer, good tan head. lactose nose with some medicinal tinged whisky. Softish palate, a little dry. Semi sweet orange cream supports mellow smoked whisky. Creamy and semi dry finish. The two disparate elements join up quite well in to a quaffable beer. Much better than the lain whisky version!

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2013 On tap at Boudeijns Biercaf, the Hague. Amazing taste sensation: full-bodied, extremely peaty and smoky. Alcohol well hidden. A beast. Like a whiskey: more for sipping than drinking.
