COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wrapped bottle, striped red paper with sticker "Peated whiskey cask" on the lower right end of the "logo"
An 9% ABV beer in which the fermented sugars were all obtained from malt (20 degrees Plato). A generous dose of hops and a long maturation time makes this beer best of the best. This beer is bottle conditioned and will go through taste evolution during many years. Selected by the brewer from his best peated whisky casks. Matured for a quarter of a year. Winner of the Zythos Beer Festival (ZBF) consumer prize 2011. (Translation by Martinus)

superspak (6236) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - NOV 6, 2015
660 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 5/2015. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy very dark brown color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge raisin, plum, fig, date, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, cocoa, peat smoke, dark bread, toasted oak, leather, vanilla, pepper, light nuttiness, and oak/toasted earthiness. Fantastic aromas with awesome complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, fruity/spicy yeast, and scotch barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge raisin, plum, fig, date, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, peat smoke, cocoa, dark bread, toasted oak, leather, vanilla, pepper, brine, light nuttiness, and oak/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of yeast/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes if raisin, plum, fig, date, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, peat smoke, cocoa, leather, pepper, brine, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, fruity/spicy yeast, and scotch barrel flavors; with a great malt/oak/spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/saline, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic scotch barrel aged Belgian strong dark ale. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, fruity/spicy yeast, and scotch barrel flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Pours brown with red reflexes a creamy colored head that reduces fast to a nice lacing. Aroma of cocoa, vanilla, whisky, peat, old oak wood, brown sugar and a touch of smoke. In taste really nice balanced, quite sweet in the beginning but turning into light bitterness in the finish. Slightly warming. I’m not a fan of peat in beer, but in this case the peat aroma isn’t overhelming. It’s rather like a spice.

While I am not the biggest fan of peat, in this brew it is not to overwhelming. Decent brew.

TEJA (3349) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - AUG 12, 2015
Sampled at SBWF 2013. Small light brown head. Clear red-brown color. Huge smokey woody aroma that also has vanilla and is somwhat like a mild whisky. Huge smoke and caramell taste and a sweet finnish.

66cl bottle at our camp site in France. Dark brown with a medium tan head. Full body with low to moderate carbonation. Quite sweet with subtle bitter tones. Dark chocolate, whisky, oak, vanilla, roasted malts and caramel. A tasty BA brew.

Black and dark. Very strong aroma and taste, with some elements of coffee, roasted malt, coffee. However, the main note resembles some kind of medicine making the beer very specific and not for me

Datk brown with medium yellow head. Good bitter taste, also something roasted, but contains a strong "medical" note, which is not pleasent for me.

On tap @ Zythos Treviso 2015. Ramata, quasi marrone, velata, con schiuma beige finissima e persistente. Aroma molto intenso, tostato, torbato, cacao amaro, legno, alcolico di frutta rossa sotto spirito, amarene e ciliege. Incredibilmente complesso. Zucchero di canna sembra presente. Dolce amabile, poi amara da tostatura, torbata, e legnosa. Calda, rotonda, poco carbonata e poco corposa, di consistenza quasi oleosa. Equilibrata ed armonica
